Job Description – General Manager
General Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations of the coffee and cocktail bar, including hiring, training and performance management of all supervisory and hourly staff, inventory management, customer service, and creation of store goals and promotions to maximize profits. The General Manager reports to the owner and all store staff will report directly to the General Manager.
Store Operations
- Written and verbal store communication with all company staff and Provision management.
- Communicates with the management team to maintain consistent practices and secure policy and procedures at all levels of operations.
- Monitors inventory levels and communicates with vendors to maintain business relationships and secure appropriate pricing, in coordination with the Director of Retail. Works closely with Provision Wholesale as primary vendor/supplier.
- Maintains adequate inventory for operations without excess waste or supply while adhering to FIFO practices.
- Seeks to grow customer base and increase store traffic by creating and leading promotions within and outside the store as well as maintaining functional, efficient, pleasant store environment and high-quality food and beverage offerings.
Training and Development
- Manages and works with a team of retail trainers to oversee all staff training including current staff development and new hire training.
- Creates, adjusts, and implements training plans for employees following the Provision schedule and materials.
- Follows a training program and style that is aligned with Provision tenets but curated to meet each trainee’s needs.
- Required to be fully cross trained in each station with an emphasis on understanding each role and how to cross train new staff.
- Acts as a line of communication to the staff for any procedure changes, updates, and general adjustments.
- Actively seeks to learn and sets goals for further personal & career development of the staff.
- Offers and implements ideas on how to improve teamwork and workflow.
Leadership and Team Organization
- Leads and models overall culture, values, mission, and spirit of the company.
- Communicates store goals to team effectively and motivates others.
- Knowledgeable about the ideals and principles of Provision and ensures that our story is appropriately conveyed by staff and store environment.
- Ensures full understanding and regularly observes and coaches staff on their performance, celebrating successes as well as discussing and offering suggestions if more feedback is needed.
- Employs positive reinforcement and motivation techniques while being kind, fair, and consistent with write ups and constructive feedback.
- With the management team, performs 6-month check-ins and annual employee performance reviews. Throughout employment, conducts ongoing coaching, feedback, and training sessions to ensure high levels of performance.
- Oversees store staffing levels and assists in hiring, performance evaluations, and, if necessary, employment terminations.
- Organizes labor to ensure adequate staffing and scheduling for needed positions for proper store operations.
- Conducts regular management meetings to review financial reports, issues related to personnel, upcoming promotions, events, and activities, etc.
- Helps to create positive, enthusiastic, and well-trained store culture by providing an informed, honest, and optimistic example for the team.
- Responds to ideas, concerns, complaints, and comments from management and staff with feedback and timely follow up.
- Models proper attendance, uniform, punctuality, customer service, and overall attitude
Quality Control and Standards
- Oversees and executes effective communication between staff to ensure that food and beverage offerings are fresh, labeled appropriately, and kept well-stocked.
- Guides the direction and launch of new seasonal food and beverage offerings and contributes any skills and ideas for new items in coordination with food & beverage team leadership.
- Establish all company and store standards, guidelines, and procedures are communicated and followed by staff at all times.
- Maintains and communicates adequate safety features and procedures to staff.
- Ensures store appearance is maintained at all times, including dining areas, patio, windows, doors, building exterior, pathways, and surrounding areas.
- Conduct regular equipment evaluations for proper equipment functionality; adheres to equipment maintenance schedules and preventative maintenance procedures on a timely and consistent basis.
- Utilizes resources and available information to troubleshoot when equipment errors occur; responds in a timely and reasonable fashion to remedy problems.
- Collaborates with owner and all management staff to schedule proper testing and documentation for recipe development and implementation.
Hospitality Standards
- Leads by example and sets the bar for friendly outstanding guest service.

Sales, Reporting, and Financial Responsibility
- Responsible for ensuring that all financial duties and reporting are completed accurately, including all administrative tasks and payroll and personnel activities.
- Seeks to increase sales, monitors weekly and monthly data and works to increase bottom-line profits.
- Proactively adjusts labor hours and product costs to stay within prime margin targets and goals based on projected sales.
- File and pay all necessary license, fees, and bills on a timely manner such as invoices, taxes, and permits.
- Maintains proper management of cash on hand and deposits on a regular basis.
- Manages and apportions proper distribution and splits of gratuity received during each pay period.
Requirements
- Reports directly to owner on a regular basis.
- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in the food and beverage industry and/or management experience.
- Strong verbal and writing communication skills.
- Strong initiative, motivation, and management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Ability to lift 50lb and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Must have a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel.
- Required to perform detailed administrative work, such as communicating via email, Powerpoint, and Excel.
- Must be professional, self-motivated and able to receive/deliver both positive and constructive feedback.
- Leads by example, demonstrates teamwork, and promotes a solution based positive work environment.
- Full availability required but will work a set schedule of a min 40 hours per week with a willingness to change schedules as needed.
- Must be able to work a very flexible schedule including holidays and weekends. Must reliably attend assigned shifts with punctuality.
- Required to be present for and participate in new staff trainings and will be "ON CALL" for all trainings and continuing education for staff.
- Attends a mandatory weekly meeting with the owner and Management Team to go over store operations, policy updates, and changes.
- Adheres to the general mission related to Provision. Acts as resource for product knowledge to customers and new staff.
