Thank you for your interest in serving the Tallac Historic Sitea and/or Taylor Creek Visitor Center! These dynamic, Forest Services facilities are operated in parternship with the Great Basin Institute to provide public recreation, historic interpretation, and environmental education to visitors. Volunteers comprise the operational backbone of these sites, working in all levels of administration, from fundraising to restoration to daily maintenance. We thank you for considering serving our public lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin!
We have three types of volunteers who serve with us: Tahoe locals, RV volunteers, and visiting volunteers who secure their own short-term housing in SLT. The RV volunteer position is an 8-week committment, during which the volunteer serves a minimum of 28hrs/wk at their site. A complimentary campsite with laundry access is provided at no cost to the volunteer in exchange for service. Tahoe locals and those who secure their own housing have more flexibility in their schedule.
