What is a Recovery Coach?
Recovery Coaching (also known as Peer Mentoring) is a strength-based support for those seeking or in recovery from addictions provided mainly by people who are in recovery themselves or have lived experience with substance use disorders and other addictions and as a result have gained knowledge on how to attain and sustain recovery. It is a partnership wherein the person in or seeking recovery self-directs his/her own path toward the goal of recovery while the coach provides expertise in supporting success in that change.
Here's what you can expect from our center and your Recovery Coach:
1. We will support you and help you create a plan for life in recovery.
2. We will help connect you to people and services who can help you succeed in your recovery
3. Serve as a personal guide for those seeking or in recovery including but not limited to: harm reduction, detox, treatment, family support and education, local or on-line support groups, etc.
4. We will keep your coaching relationship confidential, but will acknowledge your participation in the Recovery Coach Program at your request only
5. Our sessions our confidential, however we are ethically required to report a participant’s disclosure of personal involvement with child or elder abuse, threats of self-harm or harm to others.
6. We DO NOT provide formal clinical assessments, provide clinical treatment services, monitor abstinence (example urine testing), maintain clinical records, or dispense medications except for harm reduction tools such as Naloxone.
Here’s what we expect from you:
1. Your recovery is your responsibility. Any decisions you make after considering your options are your choices and not the responsibility of your Recovery Coach.
2. Please keep your Recovery Coaching appointments and be on time. If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, contact your coach as soon as possible.
3. You understand and agree that you will not hold your Recovery Coach or recovery center responsible for your decisions or actions.
4. You can contact the Recovery Coach Supervisor with any questions or concerns you have about your coaching experience, or if you feel you might benefit from a different coach.
