California for All Animals Grant Program
  • TNR of community cats is the most effective way to manage and reduce cat populations over time. Hayward Animal Services Bureau (HASB) has received grant funding to support our TNR program. Under the stipulations of the grant, households who are feeding free-roaming community cats may qualify for grant funds to be applied to the spay/neuter surgery of up to five cats. To determine if you qualify, please visit our website: www.haywardanimals.org or call (510)293-7200.

  • Note: feeding community cats is within the law and acceptable if it is done responsibly.

  • This is the universal sign that a cat has already been spayed or neutered. Some vets tip the left ear, and others the right ear.

Now let's work on getting them spayed/neutered!

Although we have a team of experienced volunteer trappers, the process is more effective if residents do the actual trapping. Trapping is not difficult, and it is very rewarding! If needed, a team member would be available to provide instruction and get you started. Instructional videos are available on our website: www.haywardanimals.org/tnr

This is what HASB can provide:

    • Humane traps. These are available to borrow from HASB (Hayward Animal Services Bureau). All we require is a $100 cash deposit, which is fully refundable when the trap is returned.
    • Transportation of the cats from Hayward Animal Services Bureau to the spay/neuter clinic, and return to the shelter.
    • The cats will receive:
      • Spay or neuter surgery
      • FVRCP and Rabies vaccinations
      • Flea Treatment
      • Microchip
      • Ear tip
      • If required, antibiotics, dewormer, sub-q fluids

Note: if a cat requires additional treatment or surgical procedure, the clinic will attempt to contact you for approval, and the additional fees will be your responsibility.

    Pick a Date
  • This is what we ask of you:

    1. Call HAS at (510) 293-7200 to schedule spay/neuter appointments. (Never trap a cat until you have an appointment)

    2. Pick up the traps from the shelter.

    3. Trap the cats the day or evening prior to the surgery date.

    4. Transport the cats to the shelter the morning of the surgery date, and pick them up the same evening.

    5. Recover the cats overnight inside a home or garage.

    6. (Now for the fun part.) The following morning, return and release the cat to the location where it was trapped.

You are now a hero, by providing that cat the opportunity for a healthier life, and you have prevented the birth of many unwanted kittens.

The grant funds cover the spay/neuter fees, for qualified residents, for up to five cats per household. Fees of $75 per cat will then be applicable.
