  • MANUAL HANDLING & ERGONOMICS

This is the name given to all activities where a person moves or prevents movement in an object by use of their hands and arms.

Manual handling covers the obvious activities of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and sliding. It also includes the less obvious ones like typing, cooking, painting and car repairs.

Performing a seemingly easy task in a posture that magnifies the effective load on the body can cause problems.

Sprains and strains come from overloading some part of the muscle joint ligament system of the body.

    Please remember:

    • Get help to lift objects that are too heavy for you
    • Plan ahead when lifting jobs are necessary
    • Never twist or turn suddenly whilst carrying a heavy load
    • Make sure your path is clear and be careful of your footing
    • Lift with the knees, not your back
    • Following these simple rules reduces your risk of injury to your back.
  • Should be Empty:
