    Ironworkers Apprenticeship Program Information

  • The apprenticeship program through Local 732 is a three-year program consisting of 6,000 hours of on-the-job training (OJT) and 612 hours of classroom instruction.

    Ironworkers are trained in multiple areas of work all of which you must be in good physical condition to do. Some examples of these are:

    Structural Steel Erection Scaffold Use Precast Safety & Erection
    Welding, flame cutting & plasma arc cutting Pre-engineered Metal Building Systems Rigging & Machinery Setting
    Post-tensioned Reinforcing Blueprint Reading Ornamental Erection
    Reinforcing Concrete Fencing Installation Forklift Operation

    Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: 18 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license, and be a high school graduate or have obtained a GED/Equivalency.

    • Initialed Apprentice Expectations & Requirements (pg 2)
    • Signed Standards of Excellence (pg 6)
    • Copy of driver’s license & identifying documentation (click here for a list of acceptable documents
    • Copy of High School Diploma/GED and school transcripts (schools will mail them upon request)

    Any supporting documentation for any courses taken or prior work experience (i.e., vocational/trade school, military, college courses, or any other applicable training)

    If selected there will be an initiation fee of $37.75 which is your 1st month of union dues. After initiation your monthly dues will also be $37.75

  • APPRENTICE EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Please carefully read and understand the following statements:

    1) All apprentices will report to the Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee (JATC)

    2) Apprentices must complete 6,000 hrs of OJT & 612 hrs of classroom instruction before graduating to Journeyman status.

    3) You may be moved from one employer to another at any time to further your training

    4) As an apprentice you may not quit any job or decline any job offered (either will result in disciplinary action from the JATC, up to & including dismissal from the program)

    5) Apprentices are expected to be ready and able to work throughout our geographical jurisdiction, which includes Idaho, Montana, and portions of Nevada & Wyoming

  • 6) To receive scheduled wage increases every 6 months apprentices are required to:

    • Submit a monthly hour log sheet for your on-the-job training
    • Maintain regular communication with the Apprenticeship Coordinator
    • Attend all required classroom instruction (204 hours per year)
    • Submit for any pre-employment or random drug screens (failure to do so or a non-negative test result, will result in disciplinary action from the JATC, up to and including dismissal from the program)
    • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality for any job you are sent to (failure to do so will result in disciplinary action from the JATC, up to and including dismissal from the program)
    • Remain current on monthly union dues Pay off any outstanding tool balances within 90 days of issuance

    2. Allow my Representatives to handle any disagreements or breaches by refusing to engage in unlawful job disruptions, slowdowns or any activities that affect our good name.

    In accordance with Article XXVI of the International Constitution, charges may be preferred against any member for violations of the Ironworkers’ Standard of Excellence, including but not limited to the following reasons:

    • Taking a job referral and not reporting to work.
    • Failing pre-employment qualifications.
    • Discharged for excessive absenteeism

    Fines for the first offense shall be no less than $100.00 or no more than one (1) day’s pay including fringe benefits and working assessments.
