Notice of Court Dates. Due to Covid-19, if you would like to attend a hearing, please call our office and we can give you information on how to attend virtually. A subpoena will be issued to you only for those dates when your presence in court is required.Plea Agreements. You have the right to know the contents of any plea agreement. You have a right to tell the court, in person or in writing, your feelings regarding any plea agreement in this case.Community Services. You have a right to be referred to community services for counseling, mental health, social, health rehabilitative, legal, and financial services.Protective orders. You have a right to be free from acts or threats of violence by the defendant, the defendant’s friends or family. Inform the Prosecutor’s Office or police immediately if threatened. Information on protective orders is available at the County Clerk’s office in the county where you reside, or in our office.Release of property. You have the right to ask for the return of your property before trial if it is not needed as evidence. Some property, such as handguns, may require identification, proof of ownership or registration, before they are returned.Violent Crime Compensation. Victims who suffer physical harm or death as a result of a violent crime (or surviving family members) may be eligible for financial aid for uninsured medical or dental bills, funeral expenses, lost wages, or counseling expenses. This fund cannot pay for property damage or loss. Information and an application are available at the Prosecutor’s Office, or online at www.in.gov/cji.Restitution. You have a right to ask the Judge at the time of sentencing, for an order requiring the defendant to pay for your expenses related to this crime. Copies of receipts or estimates may be necessary to support your claim.Employer problems. You have a right not to be dismissed or deprived of employment benefits for responding to a subpoena in a criminal case. Assistance with your employer is available through the Prosecutor’s Office, if you are subpoenaed in this case.Civil suits. You have a right to information about civil suits you may bring against the defendant if you are a victim of certain crimes resulting in financial loss.Transportation. You have a right to specially arranged transportation if you are unable to get to the court proceedings when your presence is required.Confer. You have the right to confer with a representative of the Prosecutor’s Office after criminal charges are filed, prior to trial, and prior to disposition of the case. Remember however, that the Prosecutor will be directing the prosecution of this case.Crimes of Deception. You have a right to receive information to restore your credit.Address Confidentiality. You have a right to keep your address confidential.Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE). You have a right to search for information on your offender’s custody status. An application is available in our office or online at www.vinelink.com.
