The Residency

During MGW's residencies, we completely shut down operations of the business and give over the resouces and staff artists to help designers complete important works which advance their careers. 

Residency Types

We offer three different types:

1. Trade - For designers looking to incorporate handblown, cast or fused glass components into their commercially available mass products.
2. Commission - For designers or architects looking to incorporate handblown, cast or fused glass components into their one of a kind commissioned work. Works may be private or public commissions.
3. Emerging - Student or recently graduated designers needing to incorporate handblown, cast or fused glass components into their important first products/projects.

Details

Our designer residencies can vary widely depending on what the designer is trying to accomplish. Consider:

Timing

From as little as a single weekend to as long as three weeks. Projects can be completed in a single session or split across multiple sessions depending on the needs of the designer.

Resources 

• Hot shop (300lb clear furnace, multiple color pot furnaces, annealers, sand casting equipment, etc),
• Warm shop (large 3.5' x 6.5' flat bell kiln, GL 20 glass kiln) and
• Full cold shop.
• Fab lab with CNC and 3d printers to meet some fab requirements.

Lodging Support

Varied. We can offer discounts at local hotels and in some cases a small stipend.
