PURPOSE:
* USTA Western Mass mission is to help promote, advance and sponsor the growth and development of tennis in Western Massachusetts. To that end, we have developed scholarship programs to assist those who have a desire to play but may not have the financial means to participate in lessons or programs. USTA Western Mass goal with these scholarships is to assist such players on their tennis journey, in partnership with local tennis providers, organizations and facilities.
TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE (2025):
* Junior Learn-to-Play Tennis Education Scholarship (up to $250 scholarship available for juniors ages 8 - 18 who are interested in learning to play tennis)
* Junior Continuing Education Scholarship (up to $250 scholarship available for participants ages 8 - 18 in a USTA NE Tennis in the Parks, USTA NJTL, CTA or other park & recreational program who wish to continue their tennis education via private, semi-private or group lessons or match play at a Western Mass tennis club and/or with a Western Mass tennis provider)
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
* Participant must complete a grant application form, which includes an essay detailing their love of the game, their desire/rationale for wanting tennis lessons, their detailed plans and goals and the timetable for the lessons.
* Participant must live in Western Massachusetts and must work with a Western Mass Safe Play approved provider (Western Mass includes Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties)
* Participant must need financial assistance and provide the required information on the application
* Participant must complete a digital accountability form/report to confirm completion of the program/lessons, share their experience and achievements and outline their plan to continue playing.
* Parent/guardian must sign the application and the accountability form
* A maximum of $500 in scholarship funds will be awarded per player per calendar year
GRANT DEADLINES & OTHER SPECIFICS:
* Grant applications will be reviewed the first week of every month and will not be considered retroactively. If you are looking for financial assistance for the month of February, your request must be received prior to the first day of the month.
* Grant funds will be paid directly to the provider who will need to complete a provider agreement/digital invoice, provide applicable tax documentation (W9), proof of Safe Play approval and indicate that they recommend the player for the scholarship program. An unused grant funds must be returned to USTA WMA.
