BECOME AN ESFA REFEREE
To referee with ESFA for the 2026 season, you must be turning 14 years of age or older. The total cost to become a new referee in 2026 is $193. If you are over 18, you will also need to obtain a paid Working With Children Check, which costs an additional $105 if required.
- This cost covers your referee training, uniform, and equipment (whistle, flags, cards, and notebook), as well as registration fees, including those paid to Football Australia.
As refereeing is considered a hobby, your match payments are non-taxable, so a Statement of Supplier Form will need to be completed and submitted. Match fees for referees can be found HERE.
By completing a referee course, you will be eligible to register as a referee with the Eastern Suburbs Football Association and officiate full-field matches from Under 13s to All Age. The introductory referee course includes:
- Online Laws of the Game Course
- Online Football Match Official Course
- Face to Face Classroom Recap & Practical Session
