  • HACC Summary

A Scholarship to Support Underserved Seniors in their First Year Experience of College
  • Description:

The Hugh-Alpha College Chapter (HACC) scholarship began as a passion project to not only "pay it forward" but to also honor and recognize the service of my parents, Hugh and Alpha Fleming.  Through their dedication to teaching and coaching, my parents, Hugh and Alpha  served high school students at Elbert County Comprehensive High School in Elberton, Georgia for a combined 40+ years.  Their belief in education and support of our family are the examples that lead my 4 siblings and I to continue their legacy.  This scholarship is dedicated to their vision and will reward and assist high school students as they transition into their collegiate careers.

There is an educational gap for first generation, low income, and minority high school students who are transitioning to college.  Because of this, students are not afforded the same opportunities as those students who do not fall in those specific categories (first generation, low income and/or minorities).  While our ultimate goal is to assist those students who have traditionally lacked the support and financial, educational or community resources to attend college, this scholarship is also open to all ECCHS students desiring to further their education post high school. HACC is committed to equal opportunity in education.
