    OPRD deems safety everyone’s responsibility. Therefore, every OPRD manager, employee and volunteer must be an active participant in safety and comply with all department safety policies, procedures and other guidance on this topic, and make continued safety improvement a key mission. OPRD will hold every employee and volunteer accountable for working safely as individuals and in teams.

    Safety is a core value for Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD). OPRD is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its employees, volunteers and visitors. All staff and volunteers will agree to uphold the I.C.A.R.E. Agreement (Identify, Communicate and Reduce Exposure). Watch this video to learn about I.C.A.R.E. and understand your responsibilities as a volunteer to uphold this agreement while you serve with OPRD.

  • 2025 Park Host Safety Training Curriculum


    OPRD Park Hosts are required to complete safety training annually. Additional safety training will be provided in-person and on site by OPRD staff. Volunteers will perform agreed upon volunteer assignment(s) to the best of a volunteer’s mental and physical capability. Volunteers will speak to their supervisor in advance if there are any limitations and/or concerns about carrying out the tasks as described.
