Players, Parents, Coaches: The Virginia Chess Federation is extermely pleased to host the 2022-23 State Scholastic Chess Championships to be held at the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Norfolk, VA. The tournament is a 5-round event. This is an "in-person" (over-the-board) tournament. There are exceptions (see www.vachess.org), but almost all players must be residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This is a US CHESS RATED TOURNAMENT.

The Early Entry Fee of $60 will close at midnight
on Saturday, March 18th.
On SUNDAY, March 19th, the Entry Fee increases to $75.
Starting Thursday March 23rd, Entry Fee increases to $90 online and at the tournament site.
There are NO MONETARY PRIZES for this tournament. Awards in all sections are Trophies or Plaques presented on-site during the Awards Ceremony at the end of the tournament. We do not ship trophies to players/teams who depart early, so arrange to have someone pickup your trophy on your behalf if you must leave early.
TO REGISTER: Fill out the form below and submit payment using the secure PayPal payment website. You can either use your Credit Card or your PayPal account. Required information is indicated with a red asterix (*). Registration is complete and your information is submitted to tournament organizers as soon as your PayPal payment is processed.
TO PLAY you must be a member of the US Chess Federation. There are two ways you can join US Chess or renew your expiring membership (see below). Joining US Chess DOES NOT register you for the tournament, you must complete this entry form to register for the tourhament.
- Option 1: Click here to join US Chess through the US Chess Federation website (use this option if your player wants to receive "Chess Kids" magazine). The cost to join is $20 plus the cost for the magagzine.
- Option 2: Click here to join US Chess through the VA Chess Federation ($7 off the normal $20 price). You cannot receive "Chess Kids" magazine if you select this option.
Membership in the Virginia Chess Federation, although encouraged, is NOT required. When you navigate to this page, select "Join", then select the appropriate action--e.g., Renew your membership, or "Join."
