YLT CLASS 20 APPLICATION (2023-2024)

Mission

To foster a personal vision and a lifelong commitment to leadership and community service among Tallahassee youth.

INSTRUCTIONS: Please follow these instructions carefully. All YLT applications are read and scored by volunteers, and will be used to determine which applicants are invited to the next step in the selection process- the interview. If invited, interviews will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.

Completed applications are due by Monday, February 06, 2023.

There are THREE total parts to the application: The online application (this form), the permission forms (downloadable from website) and a letter of recommendation. Once the online portion of the application is completed, please print out and turn in the permission forms with all corresponding signatures to your school's YLT Contact (listed below). A recommendation letter is required for this program - it can be turned in, in the following ways: mailed to our office, emailed to the program director or turned into your YLT contact in a sealed envelope with the applicant's name on the outside. If a letter of reccomendation is not received on your behalf, your application will no longer be considered for the program.

Applications are due by Monday, February 06, 2023.

Selection Interviews are scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2023. If you are invited to interview, you will be notified by email with corressponding confirmation details.

All applicants will be notified of the final class selection decision by the end of April 2023.

Please verify that you can attend ALL of these dates before applying to YLT. Missing more than one of these events is grounds for expulsion from YLT. You must attend, be on time, and participate fully.

Youth Leadership Tallahassee will adhere to CDC and local government recommendations on COVID-19 to ensure safe programming. All events are scheduled to be in person at this time. Events are subject to change due to weather or other circumstances.

It is free to apply to YLT. You must submit your application and turn it in by February 6th to be considered for selection into YLT. You will be interviewed as part of the selection process. Interviews will be held in-person at the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce (availability for makeup interviews will be provided for individuals with extenuating circumstances).

If selected, there is a participation fee for joining the program. However, please DO NOT let the participant fee prevent you from applying, payment plans and some scholarships are available upon request. Youth Leadership Tallahassee requires a commitment from the Applicant, the Applicant’s Parents/Guardians and the Applicant’s School for this experience to be meaningful, educational, and successful. Please read the requirements below and then sign to acknowledge your commitment to YLT. To graduate from Youth Leadership Tallahassee, a participant is expected to again, attend ALL events, including the Class Orientation, Opening Retreat, all program days, and Class Graduation at the end of the curriculum year.

In addition, each YLT participant is expected to complete at least 12 hours of community service through the YLT Class Project. This project will be discussed, planned and implemented by the entire class during the program year.

I understand the requirements of the Youth Leadership Tallahassee program. If I am selected, I will devote the time and resources necessary to complete the program, which includes upholding high standards for the YLT program as outlined in the Code of Conduct.

I understand that attendance at the orientation, opening retreat and graduation is mandatory. I acknowledge that if I miss two program day sessions, I may be asked to withdraw from the program. I understand the above commitments and agree to be bound by them in signing this application.
