    Domestic Chicken Permit Application

    (in accordance with Ordinaince Section 3-156 through 3-167)

  • Instructions:

    • Complete the following application and press the submit button.
    • Once the application has been received, a staff member will contact you within 48 business hours to schedule an inspection of your property. The inspection is to ensure you have enough space in your yard to comply with the ordinance requirements.
    • If your permit application is approved, you may contact Lewisville Animal Services at 972.219.3478 for instructions on how to pay for your permit. The Animal Services Officer inspecting your property will let you know immediately following your inspection if your permit application has been approved.
    • The permit fee is $10, expires one year from the date of issuance, and must be renewed annually.

  • Thing You Should Know About Owning Chickens in Lewisville (residential lots under one acre):

    • You may have up to six chickens. If you have dogs or cats, you may only have a TOTAL of six animals - for example, one dog, one cat, and four chickens.
    • Roosters are NOT permitted. Hens only.
    • Your chickens MUST have an enclosure AND a coop. If the coop is less than 100 square feet in size, you do not need a permit to build the coop. If the coop is more than 100 square feet, you must obtain a building permit.
    • The coop and/or enclosure MUST be a minimum of 25 feet away from the closest residential or commercial building.
    • The enclosure MUST be a minimum of 100 square feet.
    • Chickens may NOT free roam. They MUST be kept in the enclosure at all times and MUST be confined in the coop at night.
    • If issued, the permit must be renewed on an annual basis.
    • The domestic chicken permit may be revoked at any time if any portion of the ordinance is violated.
