  • LOAN REQUEST & GUARANTOR INFORMATION

  • You are welcome to apply for a top-up loan once you have repaid half of your loan (i.e. you have made 50% of the required monthly payments).

If your application is approved, your disbursment will reflect the total amount requested minus your current balance owing to HFLA.

For example, if you currently owe HFLA $5,000 and would like to borrow another $5,000 you would need to apply for a $10,000 loan. If approved, you and your gurantors would sign loan paperwork for $10,000 which would amount to the current balance owing + the new loan funds.

Please don't worry if you find this confusing as we will walk you through it once we receive your application.

  • A loan request of this size typically requires that you have one guarantor (someone who agrees to repay your loan if you cannot). This guarantor must:

    • Be Jewish
    • Be a current resident of British Columbia
    • Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
    • Be 19 years of age or older
    • Show an ability to repay the loan
    • Not be a current borrower or guarantor
    • Not be married or living with you (exceptions made for parents of dependent students) or the first guarantor
    • Not be married or living with another borrower or someone guaranteeing another loan
    • Be in good standing with HFLA
  • A loan request of this size typically requires that you have two guarantors (people who agrees to repay your loan if you cannot).

    Your first guarantor must:

    Your second guarantor must:

    • Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
    • Be 19 years of age or older
    • Show an ability to repay the loan
    • Not be a current borrower or guarantor
    • Not be married or living with you (exceptions made for parents of dependent students) or the first guarantor
    • Not be married or living with another borrower or someone guaranteeing another loan
    • Be in good standing with HFLA

Your second guarantor DOES NOT need to be Jewish and can live anywhere in Canada.

  • With one Jewish guarantor, you are welcome to apply for a loan of $6,000 or under. Please adjust your loan request amount above so that you can proceed.

  • Please ensure that you have spoken with your guarantor(s) to request that they serve as your guarantor BEFORE you submit their names.

In the days ahead they will receive a phone call from a volunteer board member to confirm their suitability and willingness to serve in this capacity. Please inform them in andvance so they are not surprised by our call.
