    Enhancing environmental benefits for farmers and value-added producers

    1) Your total business income from the previous year, and;

    2) a brief description of your business and project goals;

    3) an itemized budget using this template.

    Note that farms and businesses, applying individually or jointly under Tier III, are limited to one application per grant cycle.

    Awards will be announced on or before Earth Day (4/22), 2023.

  • The 2023-2024 grant cycle will be in its eighth year of offering micro-grants. For this round of grants, the Adirondack Council and Essex Farm Institute (EFI) are seeking grant proposals for several tiers of eligibility with awards that will enhance the environmental benefits farms and businesses provide.

    • Tier I: Up to $1500 for small commercial operations with
      • fewer than 10 employees;
      • grossing $250,000 or less and/or having less than 100 acres in production
    • Tier II: Up to $3,000 will be offered to larger farms and value-added producers that have
      • more than 10 employees;
      • grossing more than $250,000 and/or having more than 100 acres in production
    • Tier III: Up to $8,000 of funding is available for community-scaled projects led by one project leader and at least two co-applicants
      • Collaborative projects can be comprised of a farm business and a valule-added producers, all farms, or all value-added producers.

    Farm businesses listed as co-applicants for Tier III applications may not apply as single entities.

    MISSION

    The mission of the Essex Farm Institute (EFI) is to support, promote and train farmers to build resilient, diversified farms that are economically viable, socially responsible and environmentally beneficial. 

    VISION

    EFI’s vision is for farms in the Adirondack Park to:

    (1) provide prosperous, secure, long-term livelihoods for farmers and their workers;

    (2) mitigate climate change through healthy agricultural soils and leadership in renewable energy;

    (3) directly improve human health through available, accessible locally-grown food and other agricultural goods.

    PROGRAM PURPOSE

    The micro-grant program provides funds to support innovative solutions that address climate change, habitat-connectivity, water quality and energy efficiency on Adirondack working lands.

Preference will be given to proposals that will be fully funded by the micro-grants, utilize or support regenerative practices, and align with Essex Farm Institute’s vision and mission.
