• 2023 Mat-Su Area Red Card Class Registration

  • The S130/190 Basic Wildland Firefighter/Red Card Course is offered twice each spring by the Mat Su Area Forestry Office. One Class is held in March and the other is held in April. These 2 classes will be held in person for 2023. These courses are scheduled for 1 week of in person instruction. The March course will be held in Chugiak and the April course will be held at Palmer Forestry.

This course is offered using the Navigate Platform with a Tuition of: ~$57 course w/e-book, ~$73 course with a paperback book.

This registration does not guarantee acceptance into the class. Applicants will be called and or emailed prior to class in the order registrations are received. At this point, applicants will be given further instructions on how to purchase the Navigate Course Enrollment Key (Tuition). Due to the high demand of applicants, if you do not respond to our attempt to contact you via email or phone, you will not have a place in the class.

  • If you are accepted into a class, you will receive a course schedule and additional information shortly after the registration deadline. If the class you have chosen is full you will be put on a back-up list in the order registrations are received. Other State Forestry offices and the University of Alaska also offer this course: you will need to contact them directly for information and availability.

Upon completion of the class and mandatory field day with work capacity test (pack test), you will be eligible to receive a Red Card with the qualification "Firefighter 2". This will allow you to work as a wildland firefighter. A fireline safety refresher and work capacity test will be required on a yearly basis in order to maintain the qualification.
