Scholarship Program Overview
Dear Applicant:
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Detroit Alumnae Chapter is committed to helping young people succeed academically. This includes ensuring that students have access to the financial resources they need to obtain a college education. The chapter offers a variety of scholarship awards through its scholarship program, including scholarships for students interested in journalism or involved in the arts.
To apply for and receive scholarships offered by the Detroit Alumnae Chapter Scholarship Program, you must:
1. Currently be a high school senior attending a public, private, charter, or parochial high school who is not the child of a member of the Detroit Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Contact first.vice.president@detroitdeltas.org if you have questions regarding the application of this rule.)
2. Must live and reside within the following cities: Detroit, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Highland Park and all of the Grosse Pointes.
3. Have an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 (based on a 4.0 non-weighted scale).
4. Intend to enroll in a full-time program at an accredited college, university, or institution of equivalent accreditation during the 2025-2026 academic year.
5. Submit an application by March 31, 2025, signed by you and your parent/guardian and include:
* An official transcript (Parchment submissions are preferred; email to scholarship@detroitdeltas.org);
* Two (2) letters of recommendation;
* A one-page essay highlighting your community service, leadership activities, college and career goals; and, if applicable,
* Any supplemental materials for the arts and journalism scholarships as described below.
6. Participate in an interview as part of the selection process.
YOU MAY APPLY FOR ONLY ONE of the four academic scholarships, but you may apply for one or more of the art and journalism scholarships. A SEPARATE APPLICATION is required for each scholarship you seek.
