  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

It is the acceptance that skills and knowledge, expressed as units of competency, are acquired through many sources such as life experiences, work experience, formal and informal training. RPL assessment is a process to enable students to demonstrate the achievement of these competencies and to be granted recognition for their skills and knowledge upon satisfying specific criteria verifying their competence. Assessment for RPL is carried out to the same standards as any other assessment of the same competencies.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy

ACCHS recognises that students may come to us with knowledge, skills and abilities from formal education or work/life experiences. ACCHS offers students the opportunity to apply that education or experience to the course they wish to undertake. This policy guides ACCHS in determining how prior learning is to be assessed, granted and applied. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the recognition of existing skills and knowledge, attained from previous study at non-vocational institutions or from work and life experiences, against those skils and knowledge identified in the elements fo the unit or module they wish to study at ACCHS.

All RPL must be claimed via the submission of the attached RPL forms. It is the student's responsibility to complete the RPL form completely and include all relevant evidence (certified if necessary).

    Conditions for RPL

    1. All supporting documents supplied must be true and correct (and English translations provided where applicable).
    2. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that all necessary documentation is provided for assessment.
    3. All RPL applications and enquiries are submitted to ACCHS.
    4. RPL applications must be received with the course application or at least 6 weeks prior to course commencement, whichever is sooner.

    7. Students will be notified in writing of an RPL assessment outcome within 7 days of receipt of the application. If ACCHS grants RPL notice to the student, it must be signed and returned to ACCHS.
    8. Where an RPL is granted, the student's course duration may be reduced. If the registered provider grants the overseas student RPL that reduces the overseas student's course length, the provider must inform the student of the reduced course duration following granting of RPL and ensure the CoE is issued only for the reduced duration of the course.
    9. In the event a request for an RPL is submitted after the student is granted a CoE by ACCHS, and after the student's visa is granted, and ACCHS approves the RPL, the student's course duration on their CoE needs to be adjusted to reflect any reduction in the period of study. A CoE fee will apply and any changes made to the course duration needs to be reported in PRISMS.
    10. The acceptance of an RPL application received after the student is granted a CoE by the College is entirely at ACCHS' discretion.

  • Verification of Documentation

ACCHS recognises verified testamurs from other Registered Training Organisations. This applies to all cases, including students seeking RPL or previous study, and personnel documentation.

Where documentation is provided by the student, is a copy of the original, the copy must be an 'original copy' certified by a person who is on the list of approved witnesses who can verify documents. A list of approved witnesses is available at the Commonwealth Attorney General's Department website.

Where ACCHS personnel are verifying student documentation:

    1. The origial documentation is sighted.
    2. Where there is doubt over the authenticity of a testamur, the document is confirmed with the relevant issuing organisation.
    3. A copy of the original documentation is taken.
    4. The ACCHS representative may certify the documentation by signing and dating that the documentation has been verified, with the statement "I confirm that this document is a true and accurate copy of the original."
