Put your Hebrew, knowledge of Israel, and interest in global citizenship to the ultimate test with Hebrew Public’s Atidim Israel program. This three-week experience in Israel provides a hands-on volunteering experience teaching English through cultural and language immersion, and a once-in-a-lifetime peer opportunity with Israelis and Hebrew charter graduates from all network schools.
Participants will support American educators in teaching English to school-age students in the mornings. In the afternoons they will be exposed to an array of narratives, cultures, and educational activities through purposeful encounters and project-based learning that empowers them to think critically, form opinions, and establish a meaningful connection to Israel, regardless of what aspects of Israel most resonate with them.
This leadership development experience includes:
• Personal and professional development through volunteering, workshops, and activities
• Travel, adventure, and cultural programming
• Volunteering with Israeli youth
• Hebrew language immersion
Examples of activities include:
- Connect with nature at the beautiful agricultural youth village of Ben Shemen where you’ll get hands-on milking cows, attending to chickens & working in a hydroponic garden.
- Learn about the complex political situation in the region, and the different narratives around it and develop your own understanding that you can bring to a college campus and beyond.
- Get to know the different cultural and religious groups of Israel through firsthand encounters and visits to important holy places and landmarks for the Jewish people, Christianity, Islam, Bedouins, Druze, Ethiopian Israelis, Bahai, and more.
- Get in shape with a variety of exciting, challenging, and beautiful hikes and sports activities.
- Grow your Hebrew language skills by communicating with your peers and working on joint projects.
