    Rules, Regulations, and Waiver Form for Student Participants
  • The TMEA Student Rules, Regulations, and Waiver Form
    is to be 
    completed and digitially signed by the parent/legal guardian of any student participating in any TMEA All-State Ensemble, regardless of the student's age.

    Once you complete the parent portion of this form, it will then be sent to your child's school music ensemble director so they may complete thier portion of this form.

    You will need to make sure you have the name and email address of your child's school music ensemble director.




  • All-State Student Demographic Survey

    The following questions on achievement and demographics are optional. The information you share will be used for data purposes only and allows TMEA opportunities to apply for local, state, federal, and private grant funding opportunities.
  • Tennessee All-State Rules and Regulations 

    1. Students are required to attend all rehearsals and their All-State Concert performance. Students performing with their own school organization at the TMEA In-Service Conference will be excused from rehearsal one (1) hour prior to their performance time.
    2. Students will be in their seats and ready to begin rehearsal at least ten (10) minutes prior to the start of each rehearsal.
    3. Students will not chew gum or eat food in rehearsal.
    4. Students will refrain from talking during rehearsal.
    5. The use of alcohol, tobacco products, and/or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited. (Violators will be removed from All-State.)
    6. Cell phones/electronic devices are to be turned OFF and put away during rehearsal. (No texting, gaming, audio or video recording is to take place).
    7. Students must have a pencil at rehearsals.
    8. Students must wear name tags at all rehearsals.
    9. All choral and instrumental music must have measures numbered.
    10. No alternates or extra students are to be admitted unless the regional All-State Chairperson has properly notified them.
    11. Only students from grades 10-12 are eligible for the choral ensembles. Students in grades 9-12 are eligible for the instrumental ensembles.
    12. Choral Students Only - Must have legally-purchased, printed copies of the music at All-State. These legally-purchased copies can be printed copies of e-print editions and printed copies of the public-domain editions provided by TMEA, but cannot include photocopies of octavos. Students cannot use electronic devices for display of All-State music (i.e., tablets with pdfs, etc). Students without legally-purchased music
      will not be allowed to participate in All-State rehearsals or performances.
    13. Choral Students Only - Must have all printed music in a black binder (preferably a 3-ring binder).

    Failure to abide by the policies listed above will result in the following:

    First Offense–Warning from the ensemble chair.
    Second Offense–Dismissed from All-State Ensemble by the All-State Disciplinary Committee*

    *The All-State Disciplinary Committee consists of the respective All-State Ensemble Chair, All-State Choral General Chair or All-State Instrumental General Chair, and the TMEA Executive Committee.


    Attire for the All-State Ensemble Performances

    ALL-STATE CHOIRS (choose from the following):

    Choir Students wearing attire with colors other than black will not be able to perform in the All-State Concert. This includes accents of any other color.

    • Long black dress (below the knees when seated; strapless/spaghetti straps not allowed) with black socks/hosiery and dress shoes.
    • Black, long-sleeve, button-down shirt/blouse and black skirt/dress pants with black socks/hosiery and black dress shoes; Black sport coat/tuxedo jacket optional.

    ALL-STATE BANDS and ORCHESTRAS (choose from the following):

    • Long black dress (below the knees when seated; strapless/spaghetti straps not allowed) with black socks/hosiery and black dress shoes or Black, long-sleeve, button-down shirt/blouse and black skirt/dress pants with black socks/hosiery and black dress shoes.
    • Black tuxedo (no tails) or black suit, white tux shirt or white long sleeve button down shirt with a black tie (bow/straight) and black socks/hosiery and black dress shoes.

    ALL-STATE JAZZ BAND (choose from the following)

    • Long black dress (below the knees when seated; strapless/spaghetti straps not allowed) with black socks/hosiery and dress shoes or Dark skirt/Dress pants and Dress shirt/blouse.
    • Dark Suit or Dark Coat and tie with dress pants, tie (straight tie or bow tie); dress socks, dress shoes.
  • TMEA All-State Ensemble Participation Waiver

    By signing below, it is understood by students, parents, and directors that any infraction of the above rules, conduct, or involvement in any illegal activity constitutes grounds for the student’s dismissal from All-State activities by the TMEA All-State Disciplinary Committee. The All-State student's school music ensemble director, {schoolMusic}, will be contacted and asked to make immediate arrangements for their student’s transportation home.

    Further, I grant TMEA the right to use photographs or audio/video recordings of my child in connection with their participation in this ensemble for any lawful purpose, including but not limited to publicity, illustration, advertising, and web content, without compensation.

    I, {parentguardianName}, being the parent/legal guardian/legal next of kin of the {studentName}, understand that every student must have an on-site chaperone at all times and through the duration of the TMEA All-State event. School music ensemble directors typically serve in this capacity (or thier designee) and as such are responsible for all medical release/travel permission forms and are required to have such forms accessible for the duration of the TMEA All-State event.

    With that knowledge, I, {parentguardianName}, as the legal parent/guardian of {studentName}, who was selected as a student participate in the TMEA All-State Ensembles, and who does so on a strictly voluntary basis, hereby forever release, acquit, covenant not to sue (directly or through any third-party claims) the Tennessee Music Education Association.

    I, {parentguardianName} as the legal parent/guardian of {studentName}, hold harmless and indemnify for any and all claims or purposes, the Tennessee Music Education Association (TMEA) and all its employees, agents, volunteers, successors, vendors, and affiliates in official and individual capacities from any and all liability whatsoever for any and all damages, losses and injuries that may arrive from participation in this event.

  • By signing below, I understand that as the on-site chaperone I have access to appropriate medical documentation at the TMEA All-State Event for the duration of the event.

  • TMEA All-State Student Chaperone Information

  • Every Student who participates in the TMEA All-State Ensembles must have an on-site chaperone at all-times. Director's are expected to be on-site with students and serve as the official chaperone. As official chaperone, the director will be contacted in the event of an emergency. Directors are expected and required to have all student medical forms avaialble on-site in the event of a medical emergency.

    If someone other than an all-state student's choir, orchestra, or band director will serve as a chaperone, than it will be thier responsibility to have all neccsary medical forms.
