  • Immersion Summer offers 3 unique opportunities to choose from:

  • 4-Week Intercultural Learning Programs

    • 3-4 weeks total in duration - in June and/or July 2023
    • Require nearly full-time immersion and commitment during the experience (40 hours per week), similar to a short-term study abroad program
    • May be either off-campus (with travel required), or a mix of on- and off-campus
    • Collaborative in nature, and led by a Knox faculty member
    • Major costs of participation (travel, housing on-campus, food) are all paid for by a grant from the College
  • 6-Week Collaborative Research Groups

    • 6 weeks total in duration - in June 12-July 21, 2023
    • Students engage with with the project, with the group and independently, for a total of 25 hrs/wk
    • Mainly on-campus
    • Collaborative in nature, and led by a Knox faculty member
    • $1,000 stipend, $300 cafeteria funds, and on-campus housing covered by a grant from the College
  • Courses for Knox Credit 

    • Summer Term is a single, 3.5-week session from Wednesday, June 7 to Saturday, July 1, 2023.

    • For degree-seeking Knox College students, the cost is $1600 per 1.0 credit;  $800 per 0.5 credit. Knox first- and second-year students who are behind on credits: $800 per credit.

    • Crossing Borders, Building Solidarity; Affective Labor and the Chicago Mural Movement (led by Gonzalo Pinilla)
    • Performing [_________]-American Identity–Folkloric Perspectives on Hyphenated Identities (led by Brandy Wilcox)

    • The Telescope: Investigations Into the Night Sky (led by Nathalie Haurberg and Mark Shroyer)
    • Finding the Founders: Abolition, Manifest Destiny, and Settler Colonialism (led by Hilary Lehmann)
    • Decolonizing News Media Literacy: Abolitionist and Activist Approaches to “Fake News" (led by Jonah Rubin)

  • 4-Week Intercultural Learning Programs

    The major costs of participation (travel, lodging, site visits, food, materials required) will be covered by a grant from the College. Additional personal expenses must be covered by participants.

    6-Week Intercultural Learning Programs

    All selected students will receive a grant from the College to support their participation in these projects. In 2023, this will take the form of a stipend, some funds for the Knox cafeteria, and on-campus housing.
