About Us
Galerie Elan is a group of independent local artists who are joined together as a not-for-profit co-operative community. Each artist operates their own retail space in a facility consisting of member artist spaces, upstairs and downstairs galleries, and classrooms. With this model, Gregory Grant, gallery owner and director, does not take a salary, and all profit, if any, is put back into the business. The expenses of our facility are covered by member artist space rentals, gallery sales, and classroom revenue. The workload of staffing and maintaining the facility is borne by member artists per contractual agreement. Our objectives are to provide local and regional artists an opportunity for exposure and sales; and to facilitate cultural literacy in our community. We must thus collectively support and promote our fellow artists. Gregory Grant is solely liable for the facility lease, all bills, taxes, gallery management and staffing logistics. The success of Galerie Elan depends upon participation of its member artists.
Committees
As a member of Galerie Elan, you are required to serve on one of 5 committees. Committees are the workhorses of our co-operative gallery model and operate as autonomous entities tasked with fulfilling specific objectives outlined in the committee descriptions. Leadership of each committee is by group consensus, and may change every three months, if desired, thus giving everyone experience at committee management. Each committee must have a chair, and a vice-chair to manage the committee should the chair be away or unable to fulfill duties. There will be an executive monthly meeting with all committee chairs and Gregory Grant. Review the committee options below and choose which one you would like to be on. Some committees do not require physical presence to serve effectively, if distance and travel logistics are prohibitive. You may change committees after three months if you wish. When you have decided on a committee, please submit a committee choice form to Greg Grant. Forms and contracts are available on our website: www.galerieelan.com
Education / Community Outreach Committee. Chair: TBA. Identify opportunities for our co-operative artists to compete or exhibit in various alternative venues such as public or private space exhibits, such as municipal buildings, banks, law firms, or museum curations and pop-up shows. Post opportunities on our Facebook Group page, and distribute promo materials to members who may be interested. Our professional development series at the gallery in the form of artist presentations and workshops are the responsibility of this committee. It is responsible for scheduling these venues and submitting info to Marketing for promotions. This committee is also tasked with identifying young emerging and student artists to exhibit in our upstairs corridor gallery space. These month or 2 month long shows are a community service at no charge to the artists, and will commence on the second or third Saturday of the month. The Exhibition Committee will curate upstairs exhibits, with Marketing in charge of promotions. The upstairs corridor gallery is also available for rental to established artists or groups.
