Small Foster Care Contract

Please read the following statement about the Foster Care Program, and check each box that you understand and agree to abide by them.
I understand that KC Pet Project is the sole and rightful owner of the animal(s) in foster care. All decisions regarding the animal are to be made by KC Pet Project Staff.*

I agree.
I understand that I do not have the right or authority to give, transfer, or adopt out custody of any foster animal to any other person, organization; unless approved by a designated KC Pet Project representative.*

I agree.
I agree to return said animal(s) within 24 hours of request by any member of the KC Pet Project Staff or if I am no longer to care adequately for them. If for any reason I am unable to continue to house, keep separate and care for the foster animal, I will notify the KCPP Small Animal Foster Coordinator immediately and will return the animal to KCPP when the Small Animal Foster Coordinator is on duty.*

I attest to have both experience and competence to handle and care for the foster animal(s).*

I understand for the duration of temporary custody, the animal become the responsibility of the foster parent and is subject to all the Rules, Ordinances, and Regulations of the city Municipality, Town, Township, Borough, Village, County and the laws of the State wherein the foster parent and and the animal reside.*

I agree that the animals shall be provided the following: A) Access to a reasonable space for exercise if needed (rabbits) or a confined pen to exercise, B) The animal shall be always under immediate control and protection of the Foster Parent and will not be permitted to freely roam outside of its cage or quarantine room.*

I agree to incorporate the animal into my daily routine; litterbox train if able, give medication, socialize, and work with any behavioral problems within my understanding or will seek out guidance from KCPP Small Animal Foster Coordinator with any behavior concerns I witness.*

I agree to keep KCPP updated on the health and behavior of the foster animal(s) in my care.*

If an animal is harmed due to my negligence I will be held responsible for possible bills of vetting, surgery and/or medications.*

I agree not to have the animal(s) interact with other animals or children in the home until the animal and the other animals, or children, have become acquainted and approval has been granted by KCPP. I agree to be present and have visual contact with the animal(s) and when loose around other animals and children.*

I understand that KCPP suggests that I keep animal(s) in a closed off area segregated from my current pets for a designated period of time in my care. Even though KCPP animals are vaccinated there is still a small risk that my pets can get sick from the foster animals. I understand that KCPP cannot be held responsible for any illness that is passed along to my owned pets. KCPP will not be held financially responsible for any vetting or medication that my pet may need.*

I agree to keep animal(s) in clean surroundings and to perform routine grooming and brushing (if needed) to further maintain the animal in good condition.*

I understand that there will be learning opportunities given by shelter staff to help with my foster needs. I will keep in contact with the Small Animal Foster Coordinator with regular updates and if any questions or concerns arise.*

I acknowledge that KC Pet Project or any volunteers of KC Pet Project have not made any warranties regarding the future conditions, temperament, or conduct of this animal. I agree and understand that an animal can be unpredictable and that KCPP cannot anticipate or insure against unexpected conduct of an animal fostered from KCPP.*

I agree to immediately contact the Small Animal Foster Coordinator in the event of an emergency. An emergency is defined as escape, bite to a human or other animal, or medical emergency (example: ingestion of a toxin).*

I agree to hold the Kansas City Pet Project harmless from any direct or consequential damages arising out of this foster care agreement. I hereby accept this animal and assume all the risks and responsibility associated with this animal; including bites, and fully and completely release, indemnify and hold harmless, KC Pet Project, its owners, directors, volunteers, and agents from any claim, cause or action or liability or any sort or nature, whether, known or unknown, directly or indirectly arising out of or in connection with this animal.*
