    Foundation Trust
    Emerging Youth Artist Fellowship Application

  • Thank you for your interest in Foundation Trust Emerging Artist Fellowship for youth artists. Through this fellowship, Foundation Trust seeks to advance inclusivity in the arts across cultural, neurological, and gender identities.

This Fellowship will support a cohort of 6 artists for a 12-month period by providing the following:

    • Regular meetings for the cohort with a mentor at Follow Your Art Community Studios (FYACS) located at 647 Main Street, Melrose. Meetings are expected to be on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 pm, and there will be roughly 30 meetings of the cohort throughout the year between May 2023 and May 2024. These meetings will focus on providing each student individual feedback on their work as they build a portfolio for further education or employment. Artists must commit to attending 25 of the 30 meetings.
    • At least one opportunity to work with a community group on a commissioned piece.
    • Opportunities throughout the year to meet with working artists in the community. Every effort will be made to connect you with an artist who works in a similar medium to you.
    • A group exhibit of the cohort's work in May 2023 in the gallery at FYACS.

There is a fee of $500 for this program for accepted artists. This fee can be paid up front or monthly over the first 5 months of the program. Acceptance to this fellowship is not dependent on ability to pay; financial assistance is available. There is space on the form below to indicate whether assistance is required.

Applications are due by April 14th 2023. The FYACS and Foundation Trust selection committee will make acceptance decisions by May 1st, 2023. The first meeting will take place the week of May 22, 2023 and the program will conclude in mid-May, 2024.

Please complete the application as fully as possible. If you have questions, please contact the CYO Coordinator, Nicole Morse at cyo@fyamelrose.org.

The Emerging Artist Fellowship Cohort is a 12-month opportunity to focus on your artwork with the feedback and mentorship of working artists/educators, with a plan of developing a portfolio for advanced eduation/employment. There is an expectation that the artist will actively participate in group meetings, sharing work and providing feedback to other artists.

  • Applicant Financial Information

Although a large portion of the costs of the cohort program are funded by Foundation Trust, there is an offset fee of $500 per artist. These fees pay for mentorship/staff time, studio use, and in-studio supplies. Artists are required to purchase their own supplies for projects outside the studio. Financial need is not a barrier to participation in this program.
