MI Pigs – Sanctioned Show Guidelines: 2023
Carla McLachlan - Youth Programs Director - 517-242-2395 – mipigsinfo@gmail.com
We welcome the opportunity to include your swine jackpot show in the MI Pigs program. Shows that would like to be included and are scheduled between March 15 and September 15, 2023, should plan to follow all MI Pigs youth program rules and regulations, and pay the $50 sanction fee. Fees are due for each ring/show offered during your event. (A & B ring/2 judges = $100, etc.) Be sure to provide all details on the sanction form and forward your registration information to the Program Director at your earliest convenience. Shows should complete the sanction process by February 28, to be included for the 2023 season.
Sanctioned shows must include the following details in their show rules:
· Shows are open Michigan residents who are 3 years old by January 1, 2023, but not older than 21 as of January 1, 2023 are eligible to participate in the program. MI PIGS sanctioned shows must follow the age guidelines that will allow youngest (3 yrs. as of 1/1/23) or oldest (21 yrs. as of 1/1/23) MI PIGS youth to participate. (MLE age requirements are an exception). Shows should also welcome youth with a chronological age greater than 21 years of age who participate in 4-H or school activities with their developmental aged peers. (As recommended by the American with Disabilities Act).
· Showmanship will be offered at every MI PIGS sanctioned show. Exhibitors must show their own animal in showmanship to receive points. Showmanship divisions: Beginner 3-7 years; Novice 8-11 years; Junior 12 – 14 years; Intermediate 15-17 years; and Senior 18-21 years. Please review the MI Pigs rules closely to determine if your show needs to select 5 or 10 youth in each age division (determined by the total number of youth exhibiting at the show in showmanship). It is critical to record every youth that participates in showmanship, regardless of placing. Also please record youth that make a “call back” in their age division, as well as final placings.
· Please include the MI Pigs logo and/or MI Pigs Sanctioned Show on your registration/rules information.
· Consideration of the MI Pigs Code of Conduct should be considered during MI Pigs sanctioned shows.
· To accommodate the MI Pigs: Top Pig program it is important that EID tag numbers be recorded for each hog shown at your show.
Shows are welcome to offer market and gilt classes and show by breed (at your discretion). Placings in each class, all pigs that participate in class, division champion placings as well as top 5 placings must be accurately recorded and turned into the Youth Programs Director w/ 10 days after the completion of your show. Prizes for classes, divisions as well as top 5 are also completely at your discretion.
