Gary Talbert (62) was born on Dec. 5, 1940, in Long Beach, California. Gary attended Pasadena Nazarene College where he met the love of his life, Linda (Huff) (66) Talbert. They were faithful members of Pasadena First Church. Both Gary and Linda dedicated their lives to the field of education. Gary held the positions of teacher, principal, coach, and athletic director at the high school level. Gary was the LA District representative for the PLNU Alumni Board, worked for PLNU as faculty and administrator in the School of Education in Arcadia, and served on the Educap Board and with the Point Loma Sports Associates. Gary cherished the time he and Linda taught together at PLNU. Of all the teams he was associated with, they were the team of which he was most proud. Gary was selfless and dedicated his time to betterment of others. He was the definition of a servant leader, always looking out for the greater good and lifting others up. Gary was a loving father to Cathy, Richie, and Missy and loved being "Papa" to Tanner, Makena, and Kyle, all of whom he is survived by. Gary died peacefully in his home on Aug. 12, 2020, and will be greatly missed.
Another Example Submission:
Rev. Emily Ray (61), was born in Guatemala City on Dec. 9, 1936 and was raised in a Nazarene home. Emily attended Pasadena College where she majored in theology and education. It was there that she met her husband, Harold Ray (58). They shared the passion to dedicate their lives to serving God as missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene. They had four children, all of whom attended Point Loma Nazarene. They were appointed full-time missionaries to Guatemala, making Emily the first national serving as a full-time missionary. In 1996, Emily and her husband moved into Casa Robles Nazarene Missionary Retirement Community in Temple City, California. In spite of their retirement, Emily remained active, serving as the treasurer of the Casa Robles Fellowship, preparing presentations for missionary tours, and speaking in several churches within Southern California and Mexico about missions with the focus to inspire interest in missions work. Due to liver failure, Emily went to meet her Maker on Sept. 22, 2022. She is survived by three of her children, David, Dan and Janet, 12 grandchildren, five siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
