SCSO Junior Deputy Academy Application (JDA)

The Stafford Sheriff's Junior Deputy Academy is designed for children who have an avid interest in Law Enforcement and are eager to learn more from the deputies who work in their community. There are limited spots available, therefore each child is required to explain why they would like to be selected for the program.

You will be required to upload a scan or photo of the explanation prior to submitting this form. We require that this explaination be HANDWRITTEN BY THE CHILD. You may want to have this ready prior to starting the application.

Please have the applicant child explain in LESS THAN 150 words, why they would like to be selected to participate in the Junior Deputy Academy. Others may HELP them do this, but it should reflect the thoughts and feelings of the child. Spelling and grammar are not important, only the content.

Please be sure the applicant meets the following requirements prior to filling out this application:

1. Participants must reside in Stafford County.

2. Participants will be in the 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th grade this fall. (Public , Private, Homeschool, etc.)

3. Participants must be available ALL five days. (The sessions are based on grade level and are not interchangeable.)

4. Transportation must be provided to and from the Sheriff's Office each day.

5. Camp drop off is no earlier than 8:45AM (8:30AM Monday) and pick-up is promptly at 3:00PM. An adult must sign each participant in and out each day. (ID will be required.)

6. An adult emergency contact must available by telephone every day during Academy hours.

7. A bag lunch must be provided from home each day.

8. The applicant must handwrite (Not Type) the reason they want to participate, which will be uploaded as part of this application

PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITIES: - I agree that my child may participate in the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Junior Deputy Academy (SCSO-JDA) and its activities. - I understand law, law enforcement related classroom instructions and physical activities are included in the program, including, but not limited to; field trips, recreational events, sporting events, military-style drill movements, basic self-defense, defensive tactics, etc. - I agree that my child is capable of understanding and will comply with; all rules, regulations, orders, instructions, and directions, and understand my child may be dismissed from the academy for failing to do so. - I understand that my child is required to bring lunch which does not require refrigeration Monday through Thursday. - I understand my child will be issued a uniform (shorts and shirt) on Monday morning, then given time to change into their uniform. They are required to wear their assigned uniform and athletic shoes daily. - I certify that my child is physically capable and has no limitations which would prevent them from safely participating in the SCSO-JDA. - The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Junior Deputy Academy shall notify parent/guardian or emergency contact whenever their child becomes ill and the parent/guardian or emergency contact will arrange to have the child picked up as soon as possible. -In the event a parent/guardian or emergency contact cannot be reached in an emergency, I give permission to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, Junior Deputy Academy staff to seek any medical treatment that SCSO-JDA staff deems necessary and/or appropriate. I understand that I am responsible for all medical expenses incurred by my child and that SCSO-JDA advises that I carry health insurance for my child. I agree that neither the Stafford Sheriff’s Office, SCSO-JDA Staff, nor Stafford County shall be responsible for any medical expenses incurred by my child. -I give permission for my child to participate in all academy activities/field trips. I understand that I may withdraw my child from any activity/field trip, if desired and I will provide notice in writing that the child will not attend that day. -I give permission for my child's photo and video to be taken by the Sheriff's Office, Junior Deputy Academy staff, and/or County staff, and used for flyers, social media and advertisement of SCSO-JDA. PARENT/GUARDIAN AGREEMENT TO ASSUME RISK AND INDEMNIFY, DEFEND, AND HOLD HARMLESS I assume all of the risks normally involved in my child's participation in the Junior Deputy Academy.
