• CALL FOR INPUT 2023

  • The 10 New Insights in Climate Science ("10NICS") series is an annual syntheses highlighting key recent advances in climate change research, with the purpose of equipping policymakers and the general public with essential knowledge to make sense of and confront the climate emergency. This is a joint initiative of Future Earth, The Earth League, and The World Climate Research Programme.

The 10NICS report has been launched since 2017 at the UNFCCC COP with the participation of the Executive Secretary. The report itself is based on the contents of an academic manuscript submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. This ensures the rigour and credibility of the report. The manuscript from last year was published in the journal Global Sustainability, as was the case in 2020 and 2021.

The 10NICS process starts with a request to researchers across and beyond our institutional networks, aiming to gather contributions from around the world and covering a wide range of topic expertise. We also use this questionnaire to identify potential co-authors for the policy report and the academic manuscript.

We welcome your contribution: Please share with us what you consider to be a key recent advance in climate change research that you think should be highlighted for policymakers. Relevant topics span a very broad scholarship on the underlying dynamics and impacts of climate change, and the possible means for confronting the climate emergency.

Completing this questionnaire takes approximately 15 minutes.

What is a key recent advance in climate change research that you think should be highlighted for policymakers?

Please provide at least one academic reference supporting your suggestion.

By ‘recent’ we mean that core supporting references should be published after December 2021. (Older references can be included as background).

    By ‘key advance’ we mean

    1) new evidence or analyses that significantly update our understanding of the processes and patterns of climate change, its impacts, and the possible means to address it; or

    2) novel topics and questions associated with emerging developments.

While the former refers to concrete new insights, the latter refers to important issues starting to appear on the horizon of climate change research.
