    Temporary Work - GAE Visa Sponsorship

  • Congratulations on starting your journey for your internship in the UK! You will have been provided this form by your university. Please read and complete the following information and we will be in touch with the next steps on applying for your visa sponsorship.

    BUNAC are a Temporary Work - Government Authorised Exchange visa sponsor. This visa allows students and recent graduates to carry out an internship in the UK.

  • So we can ensure you meet the eligibilty for our visa sponsorship, we will be checking the following:

    • At least 18yrs
    • Full time student at degree level or graduate
    • If you are a graduate, you must start your internship within 24 months of your graduation certificate date
    • You do not hold a UK passport
    • You have not received the TW GAE visa more than twice before
    • You have previously not worked/interned or carried out any type of work experience at the UK host employer where you intend to carry out your internship
    • You can provide BUNAC with these documents at time of application

     

    So we can ensure your Host Employer in the UK meets the eligibilty for our visa sponsorship, we will be checking the following:

    • Be a maximum of up 12 months in duration
    • At least 25 hours per week
    • Must be a supernumerary position, meaning that the role is designed for an intern and not a permanent employee
    • Your internship must include complex activities rather than routine tasks, and have a good level of rotation and clear objectives backed up by a detailed training plan
    • It must include enough supervision from your employer. In most cases, we look for a fulltime permanent staff to intern ratio of at least 5:1
    • If it’s a paid internship, it must meet the national minimum wage legislation; and for unpaid internships, the UK volunteer rights
    • All internships longer than 6 months must be paid (meeting UK national minimum wage)
    • The company you intern with should be registered with Companies House for at least the last 12 months.
    • If your internship is longer than 6 months, you will need to pay £1035 to UKVI for your IHS (Immigration Health Surrcharge) fee
    • At least 30% of a hybrid internship must be based in the company’s registered office.
    • We do not sponsor hospitality internships (please see below for detail)
    • We do not sponsor healthcare internships (please see below for detail)

     

    BUNAC does NOT sponsor the following internships:

    • Fully remote internships
    • Internships within an Embassy/Consulate
    • Hospitality internships – that include any public facing or serving, e.g. bar/catering/waiting or retail positions etc.
    • Healthcare internships – that include any patient contact or care e.g. care or nursing home or treating patients in hospital etc.
    • Internships at a UK company where you have previously worked/interned/received work experience.

     

    BUNAC will conduct a site visit prior to approving your internship (costing £115) for any company if any of the below statements apply:

    • Have fewer than 20 full-time employees
    • Have less than £3 million turnover
    • Have been trading as a UK company for less than 2 years
