  • HEY, READ THIS FIRST!

Before you dive in, here's an overview of the categories and some general guidelines to make your life easier. If you encounter any issues with the form, please email us at: photocontest@desertcompanion.com.

    CATEGORIES

    Please read carefully!

    ARTISTIC & ABSTRACT

Familiar subjects seen in new ways, with fresh angles, unusual compositions, and alterations. Photoshop, software filters, and editing tools are encouraged in this category, but not required.

    BLACK & WHITE

This category is for black-and-white or monochromatic photography that employs artful use of lighting and contrast for striking images that pop with drama.

    LANDSCAPES

Creative presentations of Nevada’s endless open spaces, from lonely roads and sweeping vistas, to dense forests and rushing streams. To stand out in this popular category, photos should feature unusually breathtaking scenery, employ advanced techniques, or have some other unique edge.

    NATURE

The flora and fauna that share our state's urban, rural and wild spaces with humans, from your rescue cat and rose garden, to Nevada’s diverse wildlife and abundant wild lands.

    PEOPLE

From portraits to action shots, these images convey the personalities, lifestyles, and passions of our state’s diverse population at work and play.

    STORYTELLER

The proverbial “picture worth 1,000 words,” these editorial shots capture an event, happening, or situation, and have a certain narrative oomph.

    SOME QUICK GUIDELINES

    • While there's no limit on entries, please curate your submissions. In other words, if you've got three variations of one image, choose the best photo rather than submitting all three.

    • Watermarks on your photos are not necessary, and tend to detract from the photos themselves when it comes to the judging phase.

    • Plagiarized photos or photos of copyrighted images presented as original material will be immediately rejected.
  • UPLOAD YOUR PHOTO(S)

Choose the appropriate category, upload your photo and tell us about your shot.
Note that all photos must be taken in Nevada to qualify for entry into the contest.

You may upload up to 10 photos per submission. Let us know what kind of camera you have, and other info (e.g. lens, ISO) if you have it. Submit your photos in one of the listed formats (preferably ".jpg"), with a maximum size of 8MB. Have fun!
