Purpose: To provide a one-time microgrant to four (4) deserving Black filmmakers in their first film project as well as providing resources from NWFF to support their creative endeavors and interests.
Award Components: This juried grant will offer four (4) awardees $2500 each in unrestricted funds towards their first film - at any stage of development and in any genre - (drama, fantasy, horror, musicals, mystery, romance, science fiction) short or feature film - along with co-sponsored artist development prizes from our fiscal sponsor, Northwest Film Forum (NWFF). Awardees will also receive the following benefits courtesy of BCC’s Fiscal Sponsor and grant co-sponsor NWFF.
- Four (4) movie passes to NWFF, valid for 1 year from date of award
- Unlimited Workshop and Class waivers, valid for 1 year from date of award and subject to availability/class capacity
- Use of NWFF editing room, or community spaces for gatherings, valid for 1 year from date of award and subject to scheduling availability
- Mentorship/consultant sessions with Seattle film artists, BCC + NWFF program
- A film screening and promotional support – if the awardee film is completed within 1 year from date of award.
Eligibility:

Based on the work and communities BCC serves, Black identifying, queer, trans, straight, non-binary, non-gender conforming applicants are invited to apply.

Active interest in film, cinema studies, Afro-Diasporic filmmaking, film criticism, and production.

First time Black, African, and/or African-Diasporic filmmaker

Applicants must be 18 years or older

Must be a permanent resident of Oregon or Washington
- Due to availability of related or organizational opportunities, currently enrolled students, and current contractors, team, and staff members of BCC and NWFF are not eligible to apply

Application Process:
- Completed application form
- Artist statement which includes a brief explanation of career goals and biographical information. Please include information on why you are interested in applying and what is your dream with this grant?. We also offer the option of submitting this portion written OR video versions. (600 words max or Links only with work no larger than 1G and no password protection)
- Share your film synopsis (300 words)
- OPTIONAL: Work Samples which can include any snippet of work you have done such as short or long form of any media.
We held an Application Workshop on Feb 9th at 12:30pm-1:30pm PST where we reviewed the application form and grant requirements.
