• Rising Sophomore Enrollment Form

    2023-2024
  • For further reading, the full Program of Studies is available on the school's website, Signature School Program of Studies.

  • Next, you'll begin selecting courses.

  • Course Requests

  • There are 8 periods in the regular school day. You are pre-enrolled in AP Seminar, and you must take AP English Language and Composition, AP World History: Modern, Honors Chemistry and the semester-long Health course. You must also take the next level of world language and a mathematics course. Provided that you don’t have to repeat any classes, you have the following options to complete a schedule: one year-long course and one semester-long course or three semester-long courses.

  • Required: Group 1 Language

You must take one Group 1 Language course each year of high school, and you must earn a C or better in all 4 of your English classes to stay on track for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma.

  • Required: Group 2 Language

You continue your four-year world language sequence and must earn a C or better at each stage in the sequence to stay on track for the Academic Honors Diploma.

You can only make one choice on this page. However, if you want to request a second world language for your year-long sophomore elective, you certainly may do so. Simply indicate which class you wish to take in the box marked "Additional Courses" near the end of the form and include this class on the list of your course choices in the final box marked "Summary."

  •  Required: Group 3 Individuals and Societies

You must take year-long AP World History: Modern and one semester of Health, each of which requires a C or better for the AHD.

  •  Additional Group 3 Individuals and Societies Electives

AP Government AND either AP Microeconomics OR AP Macroeconomics are graduation requirements that most students take during 10th or 11th grade. Each requires a C or better for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma.

Semester-long Indiana Studies and Ethnic Studies prepare students for the junior-year AP Research course.

  • Required: Group 4 Experimental Sciences

You must complete Honors Chemistry with a grade of C or better for the Academic Honors Diploma.

  • Additional Group 4 Experimental Sciences Electives

AP Environmental Science is a pre-requisite for IB Environmental Systems and Societies, a year-long course that satisfies both Group 3 and Group 4 IB diploma requirements.

    AP Physics

    • This course requires a strong math background. AP Precalculus/A2T is the recommended co-requisite for this course.

    • This course is a pre-requisite for IB Physics SL/AP Physics 2.

  • Required: Group 5 Mathematics

You must take one mathematics course each year, and you must earn a C or better in all 4 of your mathematics classes to stay on track for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma.

Below, is a course sequence to help you choose with teacher input. You may double up in mathematics, taking both Honors Geometry and AP Precalculus (Algebra 2/T).

Students initially choosing our pilot AP Precalculus/A2T math course will take a diagnostic math skills exam in early March to help families make an informed choice between AP Precalculus/A2T and Algebra 2 Honors. In the event that test results indicate that Algebra 2 Honors is the best fit, we will contact families to discuss making the change.

  • Group 6 The Arts Electives

You may take one or more courses.

    • Instrumental Music meets before school, 7:30-8:20.
      • Orchestra meets on Mondays and Wednesdays.
      • Band meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
      • Jazz Band meets on Fridays.
    • Musical Theatre is on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-5:00.

  • Repeated Courses

If you have to repeat a course because you earned a D or F in a class required for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma (see p. 4 of the Program of Studies), we will re-enroll you in that course as soon as space allows, most likely next year. In this case, we will not be able to honor the requests you indicate above.

Note that, in keeping with our weighted grade policy, when you repeat a class, your GPA is figured based on the higher final grade earned. However, if you repeat only the fall or spring semester of an AP or IB class and do not take the AP or IB exam, you will not receive a weighted grade for class.

    Please answer the question below.

  • Silent Study Requests, Additional Courses, and Comments

  • Silent Study Requests

You may elect to take a Silent Study for fall, spring, or both semesters. When making this decision, consider these items:

    • You will not earn a credit towards your diploma and so may not have room in your schedule to take a Silent Study during your junior or senior year.
    • You will lose an opportunity for academic exploration ahead of the junior-year AP Research project.
    • Silent Study is meant for students able to work independently and silently on academic requirements. Silent Study students must check in with their supervising teachers at the start of each period for attendance. We will find alternative course placement for students who register for Silent Study but who prove unable to meet behavioral expectations.

If you wish to take a Silent Study, choose Fall Semester, Spring Semester, or both below. We will then have you type your name to indicate that you understand the expecations of Silent Study students.

  • Summary

  •
  • Every attempt will be made to accommodate student requests. However, final scheduling will be determined based on staffing and funding.

Once you hit submit, students and guardians will receive an email of course selections. Please complete the hard copy guardian signature form to hand in to your 6th period teacher no later than February 9.
