  • 2023 LINDON POLICE DEPARTMENT YOUTH ACADEMY

    Are you a resident of Lindon, in high school, and interested in Law Enforcement? The Lindon Police Department is accepting applications to attend a Youth Academy. The academy provides an opportunity to gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a police officer.
    The main goal of the Youth Academy is to improve and build relationships between the youth of our community while exposing attendees to a potential career in law enforcement.

    The academy will include hands-on instruction of topics to include:

    • Overview of the Criminal Justice System
    • Responsibilities and Roles of a Police Officer
    • Patrol Functions (practical scenarios)
    • Investigations (practical scenarios)
    • Basic First Aid
    • Ride-Along
    • Basic Firearms Instruction

    The academy will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 pm to 7:30 pm, over a four-week period beginning on April 18th. Interested individuals will need to complete the attached application, a brief letter of interest, parental consent, and liability waiver.

    • We will be accepting 12-14 applicants for the academy. Depending on the number of applications, preference may be given to those in 12th, 11th and 10th grades and a commitment to attending each week. The Police Department is intending to hold future academies to provide further opportunities.

    Release and Waiver of Liability:

    I understand a ride-along involves riding in a police vehicle being operated by a police officer who is performing both routine and emergency police functions. I acknowledge that riding in a police vehicle can be a potentially dangerous activity, as it may be necessary to operate the vehicle outside of the normal rules of the road. I further acknowledge that I may be exposed to dangerous and/or hazardous situations inherent in police work whereI may be at risk for serious, or even fatal injury. I understand that police officers cannot avoid all dangers or disregard their duties which involve such dangers or hazards simply because I am accompanying them. Knowing the risks involved, I hereby assume any and all risks of injury, death, or property damage arising out of or in any way connected with my participation in the ride-along. I, the undersigned, in consideration of being allowed to participate in the ride-along, do for myself, my heirs, next of kin, family, guardians, executors, administrators and assigns, forever waive, release, and discharge Lindon City and its officers, officials, employees, agents, and volunteers from and against any and all claims, damages, or liabilities arising out of or in any way connected with my participation in the ride-along. I further understand this release and waiver of liability includes all activities associated with the Youth Academy. I have carefully read the foregoing Release and Waiver Liability. I understand the contents thereof and I sign the same freely and voluntarily.
