    No extension to pay tax

An extension of time to file does not give you more time to pay your tax.  If you believe you will owe money when you file, you should include the amount you think you will owe with your extension.  You can pay what you owe with your extension in any of the following ways:

    1. Direct debit of your bank account
    2. Mailing a check
    3. Via the IRS and/or state website payment pages

    Requesting the Extension

Complete this form if you would like Pacific Northwest Tax Service to file an extension of time to file your IRS and/or state tax return.

Submit a Separate Extension Request Form for Each Person or Business

If you require both business and personal extensions, you must submit a separate extension request for each personal or business return you need an extension for.  If you have more than one business, complete a separate extension form for each business.

    Fee

The fee charged for filing an extension is $80 for existing clients and $230 for new clients.  The fee is in addition to the cost of tax preparation.

Your extension can be filed with our without calculating the amount of any taxes you might owe or refund you may be entitled to.  The cost of determining whether you owe or have a refund is not included in the fee for filing an extension.

    • IRS Extension
    • Filing a Form 1065 or 1120-S extension doesn’t require paying federal income tax at the entity level because these are pass-through entities. The partnership or S-Corporation itself doesn’t pay federal income tax, but the income flows through to the owners or shareholders, who report it on their personal returns. The extension only gives more time to file the return, not to delay any taxes that might be owed by the owners personally.

    • State of Oregon Extensions
    • Making Payment to Oregon

Your Oregon return is automatically extended when you file a federal extension. There is no separate extension that is filed for Oregon, except where you will timely file a federal return, but need more time to file Oregon.

It is not possible to pay tax to Oregon via direct debit of your bank account when you file the federal extension.  You can pay tax to Oregon in one of the following ways:

      1. PNW Tax can provide you with a voucher which you will mail to the Oregon Department of Revenue with a check.
      2. You can login to your Oregon Revenue Online account and pay your tax using this system.
      3. Download a blank

        • Oregon Partnership Return Payment Voucher Form 65-V, then

    • Metro SHS Tax Return Extension
    • Metro Selective Housing Services (SHS) Tax

Businesses with gross receipts over $5 million are required file a return and pay tax to Metro if they have business income from inside the Metro Services District.

Note: Metro covers nearly all of the Portland Metropolitan Area, including most of Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties.  You can see if your business is inside Metro at this link.

      Extensions,

The City of Portland administers collection of the PFA and SHS taxes.  You can pay your tax and file an extension on the City website, or you can mail a paper extension with a check.

    • Corporate Activity Tax (CAT) Return Extension
    • The CAT applies to businesses (and unitary groups of businesses) that do business in Oregon and have sufficient commercial activity in the state. It is not limited to just corporations.

If a business has more than $1 million commercial activity in Oregon, then they must file a CAT return and pay tax if taxable activity exceeds this amount.

    • Oregon encourages taxpayers to submit the extension request through Revenue Online, its secure business tax portal. This is typically easier and faster than mailing paper forms.
