Theta Tau is pleased to announce the Theta Tau Fellows Program. This program seeks to develop the next generation of Theta Tau National Officers and Volunteers. Fellows will receive training in key areas of competency such as student/chapter advising, mentorship, and Fraternity operations, as well as providing meaningful and valuable professional development on topics such as meeting facilitation (virtually and in-person), professional correspondence, coaching, assessment, managing-up, and much more. During the course of the program, Fellows will hear from subject matter provided by experts both from within and outside of the Fraternity. At the end of the program, Fellows will be apprenticed to a seasoned National Officer and eventually appointed to their own National Officer/Volunteer role.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The program will be in two parts; a virtual component during the spring and an in-person program that will run alongside the National Convention in Lexington, Kentucky from July 20 - 23, 2023. The virtual program will consist of approximately 15 hours of programming over the months of April, May, June and July and will cover basic topics such as the role of a National Officer, Fraternity Operations and the basics of advising a chapter, before delving into professional and personal development programming. Some of this programming will take place asynchronously (e-learning modules, etc) and some will take place e-classroom style with inside and outside presenters. The in-person program will take place in a classroom-style setting with professional facilitators, speakers and senior Fraternity leaders.
Following the Spring and Summer program, Fellows will be apprenticed to a National Officer/volunteer for the 2023-2024 Academic Year. During the apprenticeship, Fellows will gain hands-on experience in the National Leadership that will equip them to take on a National Officer/Volunteer position in their own right for the 2024-2025 academic year and beyond.
COMPENSATION
Fellows will receive complimentary travel, lodging and meals for the duration of the Convention weekend. Fellows will attend a very small number of Convention programs (keynotes, meals etc) but will otherwise be totally separate from the Convention attendees. Fellows may either book their own travel and receive reimbursement (within certain bounds established by the Grand Treasurer) or the Central Office will book your travel in advance with no cost to you. There will be no other compensation, either in connection with the training program or with eventual service as a National Officer.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The application process will be involved. Applicants will fill out an application that calls for letters of recommendation, references and a certification from your Chapter that you are in good standing. Semi-finalists - candidates who seem to meet the qualifications - will be selected and vetted by the Central Office in the same way as other candidates for appointed office. Finalists will be asked to interview with the selection committee. Those selected for the program will be notified on April 3, 2023.
To qualify:
- You must have graduated, or plan to graduate, from your undergraduate program between May 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023.
- You must be a member in good standing - you cannot be in financial arrears to your chapter and you cannot have open Health & Safety Sanctions at either the chapter or national level. Membership in a chapter that has been sanctioned will not necessarily disqualify you.
Fellows May Not:
- Serve as their chapter’s delegate or alternate for Convention
- Stand for election to the Executive Council (Fellows receive a higher level of travel reimbursement than other potential candidates, which would create an unfair advantage.)
