Luminous Light: Photography without a camera
with Bonnie Baker
Level: Everyone (no photo experience needed)
Saturday, July 15, 10am-4pm
ARTSPLACE, 396 St. George St.
Annapolis Royal, NS
DESCRIPTION:
Lumen printing is a slow paced way of making photo images using only photosensitive paper exposed to daylight, led lights, or smartphone flashlights.
We will place objects on fresh or expired black & white silver gelatin paper and expose them to light.
But, lumen prints are not made in a traditional darkroom nor with photography chemicals. They are developed under normal light and preserved by scanning them as digital photos or fixing in salted water.
Unlike traditional black and white photograms, lumen printing results in a spectrum of tones from warm yellow, orangish pinks and browns to deep purples and blues.
In this one-day workshop, we will create a number of lumen prints using a range of botanical materials and household objects under different conditions. There will be a big emphasis on experimenting.
As we go along, we will scan newly made prints then fix them, so participants will have two versions of each print they make: as a digital file and a physical photograph.
