  • Class of 2027 Course Registration Form

    2025-2026 Junior Year Courses
  • The 2025-2026 Program of Studies is also available on the Class of 2027 Schoology page and on Signature School's website.

  • Next, you'll begin selecting courses.

Please note that if you choose IB Psychology SL, AP Computer Science A, AP Physics 2/IB Physics SL, or IB Chemistry SL you should plan to pick alternates.

  • Course Requests

  • There are 8 periods in the regular school day. Provided that you don’t have to repeat any classes (note that repeat courses will be added to your schedule requests in late spring/early summer), you may have up to 3 year-long electives (6 semesters) to choose from. You should complete a two-year IB plan (template is at the end of course selections) before finalizing your course requests to ensure that the classes you choose will keep you on track for an IB Diploma. Your plan should include three (or 4) IB courses at the Higher Level (HL) and three (or 2) IB courses at the Standard Level (SL) distributed across IB Groups 1-5 and a 6th IB course from IB Groups 1-4 or IB Group 6.

    • You must take junior English, IB English HL1/AP Lit, IB Group 1.
    • You must take the next world language courses, IB Group 2.
    • You must make a plan for taking either a one-year or two-year IB Individuals and Societies (Group 3) course.
    • You must make a plan for taking either a one-year or two-year IB Experimental Science (Group 4) course.
    • You must choose a mathematics course and make a plan to satisfy IB Group 5 requirements.
    • You must plan for a 6th IB course (in Groups 1-4 or Group 6) as your IB elective. This may be a one-year course or a two-year course sequence.
    • If you have not already taken AP Government and AP Macro- or Microeconomics, you must sign up for these semester-long courses your junior year.
    • You are pre-enrolled in AP Research, satisfying both the IB extended essay requirement and the Project-Based Learning pathway of the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma. However, you should include the course on your Two-Year plan, at the end of the form.
  • Required: Group 1 Language

You must take one Group 1 Language course each year and must earn a C or better in all 4 of your English classes to stay on track for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma (AHD).

  • Required: Group 2 Language

You continue your four-year world language sequence and must earn a C or better at each stage in the sequence to stay on track for the AHD.

If you want to take a 2nd world language course, you may request this on the "Addtional Course Requests" page and then remember to include it in your Two-Year plan.

Because of the advanced nature of IB French/German/Spanish HL1/4, you should consult your teacher before signing up.

  • Group 3 Individuals and Societies

You must complete one semester of AP Government and one semester of AP Economics with a C or better to meet AHD requirements. If you have not completed AP Gov and AP Economics, you must enroll in them now. If you must repeat either one of these courses, do not sign up for them here. Rather, note this on the page, "Repeated Courses" and include the course or courses on "Two-Year Plan."

You must have a plan to complete either a one-year Group 3 IB SL course or a two-year Group 3 IB HL course by the end of your senior year. Please note that AP Government, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Microeconomics do not count towards the IB Diploma.

IB Psych SL and IB History SL are one-year courses, IB Environmental Systems and Societies has a prerequisite, and IB History HL is a two-year course. AP European History (aka IB History HL1) is historically preferred by selective collges.

AP Environmental Science is a pre-requisite for IB Environmental Systems and Societies, a year-long course that satisfies both Group 3 and Group 4 IB diploma requirements.

  • Required: Group 4 Experimental Sciences: You must complete at least one SL or HL in this group. The Indiana Academic Honors Diploma requires students to earn a C or better in Biology Honors, Chemistry Honors, and 1 other advanced science course.

    • IB Chem HL1 and SL1 (AP Chem) and IB Bio HL 1 are the first year of two-year courses.
    • IB Chemistry SL is a one-year course. If you select the course, you will be asked to select an alternate.
    • IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science SL is a one-year course.
    • IB Environmental Systems and Societies
      • has a pre-requisite, AP Environmental Science;
      • is a year-long course that satisfies both Group 3 and Group 4 IB diploma requirements.
    • AP Physics 1 requires a strong math background and has a pre- or co-requisite, AP Precalculus/Algebra 2 with Trig. It may be taken as a stand-alone elective or as the first year of the two-year IB Physics SL sequence.
    • AP Physics 2/IB Physics SL has a pre-requisite, AP Physics 1.
    • AP Computer Science A requires strong math skills, evidenced by As or Bs in AP Precalculus, for example.
  • Required: Group 5 Mathematics

You must take one mathematics course each year, and you must earn a C or better in all 4 of your mathematics classes to stay on track for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma.

Here is a course sequence to help you choose with teacher input.

  • Group 6 The Arts

Not required. You may take one or more courses.

You may take an IB Group 6 course for your 6th IB Diploma subject, but you don’t have to. Group 6 electives that do not fulfill IB Diploma requirements are great sources for CAS hours.

    • Instrumental Music meets before school, 7:30-8:20.
      • Orchestra meets on Mondays and Wednesdays.
      • Band meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
      • Jazz Band meets on Fridays.
    • Musical Theatre is on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-5:00.
  • Repeated Courses

  • If you have to repeat a course because you earned a D or F in a class required for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma (see p. 4 of the Program of Studies), we will re-enroll you in that course as soon as space allows, most likely next year. In this case, we will not be able to honor the requests you indicate above.

Note that, in keeping with our weighted grade policy, when you repeat a class, your GPA is figured based on the higher final grade earned. However, if you repeat only the fall or spring semester of an AP or IB class and do not take the AP or IB exam, you will not receive a weighted grade for class.

    Please answer the question below.

  • Silent Study Requests, Additional Courses, and Comments

  • Silent Study Requests

You may elect to take a Silent Study for fall, spring, or both semesters. When making this decision, consider:

Silent Study is meant for students able to work independently and silently on academic requirements. Silent Study students must check in with their supervising teachers at the start of each period for attendance. We will find alternative course placement for students who register for Silent Study but who prove unable to meet behavioral expectations.

If you wish to take a Silent Study, choose Fall Semester, Spring Semester, or both below. We will then have you type your name to indicate that you understand the expectations of Silent Study students.

  • AP Research/IB Extended Essay

Juniors complete this project during 6th period.
  • Although you are many months away from finalizing your research question, you will do some preliminary investigation now to help us place you with the most appropriate research mentor.

Your AP Research submission will eventually become your IB extended essay submission. Thus, it is best to work within the IB framework when selecting your topic. Here is a link to the IB extended essay guide, which contains many examples and helpful guidance.

    A few commonly needed facts:

    • Students must choose an interdisciplinary (two IB subjects) or a subject-focused pathway. Because Environmental Systems and Societies is cross-disciplinary, it is not a permissible choice for an interdisciplinary pathway.
    • Essays in history must deal with events at least 10 years in the past. However, interdisciplinary pathway essays in history and another area are not subject to this constraint.
    • Essays in psychology may not involve an experiment. However, interdisciplinary essays in psychology and other areas are not subject to this constraint.
    • You may write an essay in a 2nd language, but the work as such would not be submissible to AP Research.
    • Essays in science will likely not involve an experiment unless the student can demonstrate expertise in the laboratory and has access to a lab setting with supervision.
  • Two-Year IB Course Plan

  • Getting the most out of your high school experience requires planning ahead. Use the information provided in the IB meetings and the Program of Studies to map out your class schedule for the next two years.

    • You must take AP U.S. Government and Politics (a one-semester course) AND a semester of economics (AP Macroeconomics or AP Microeconomics) to graduate.
    • You must schedule a total of 3 IB HL courses and 3 IB SL courses over the two years. Five of these IB classes must be chosen from Groups 1-5; the 6th IB class can come from Groups 2, 3, 4, or 6.
    • If you received a D or F in any course required for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma, you will need to retake the class and should include the class in your two-year plan.

  • (Note that everything in the above charts must be filled in before the form will allow you to move to the next page.)

  • Every attempt will be made to accommodate student requests. However, final scheduling will be determined based on staffing and funding.

Once you hit submit, students and guardians will receive an email of course selections. Please complete the hard copy Parent/Guardian Sgnature Form to hand in to your 6th period teacher no later than March 10.
