Powdermill Nature Reserve was established by Carnegie Museum of Natural History in 1956 to serve as a field station for research on natural populations. Located in Rector, PA, PNR is home to the museum’s GIS lab, avian research center, and a new nature center with ecological exhibits. The site offers more than 2,200 acres of woodlands, streams, fields, and ponds for research and educational programs.
Teens (ages 14+), college students, and adults of all ages may become volunteers to support staff with ongoing projects and special assignments, including Appalachian-specific studies in ornithology, ecology, invertebrate zoology, and botany. Teen applicants can also sign up to help with PNR's annual summer camps.
A Note For Applicants:
We appreciate your interest in opportunities with Carnegie Museums and look forward to reviewing your application. Due to the high volume of submissions received, we are unable to respond to inquiries regarding the statuses of individual applications. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and will remain on file until the end of the current calendar year. If you are selected as a final candidate for an opportunity, the Volunteer Office or museum staff will contact you directly to schedule an interview.
