Qualifications: There are two scholarship opportunites offered by Sigma Pi Lambda. A canditate can only apply for ONE (1) of the two scholarships.
Schloarship #1: Sigma Pi Lambda General Scholarship (Black)
Candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this award:
Schloarship Reward: $500.00
CRITERIA:
· Must be a graduating high school senior (2023-2024 school year)
· Male Resident of Clay, St. Johns, or Duval counties
· Completed written application
· Application must be received on time without exception
· 2.75 Minimum Weighted GPA overall
· Official high school transcript
· All transcripts must be submitted using the grading policy/GPA scale currently used by their school
· Acceptance letter from two-year college or trade school. (copy must be enclosed with application)
· Essay from one of the two topics listed below (250 words):
1.) What does it mean to be a servant in the 21st century to all mankind?
2.) What is the biggest challenge facing minority youth of today?
· Essay must be typed. Times New Roman style, font size 12, single spaced, and error free
· No essay or application will be accepted or considered for evaluation if it is handwritten, as all submissions must be received in electronic form.
· Two letters of recommendation, one from a school official such as an administrator, guidance counselor, department chair, or academic advisor and one from a person in the community (letters from relatives are strictly prohibited). Must include typed two contact numbers, e-mail address, and full name
· A face to face/zoom panel interview of the applicant with the review committee
· Finalist must participate in a Sigma Pi Lambda Chapter related community service activity for eligibility to receive scholarship proceeds.
Schloarship #2: SPL General Scholarship (Old Gold)
Canidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this reward.
Scholarship Reward: $1,000.00
CRITERIA:
· Must be a graduating high school senior (2023-2024 school year)
· Male Resident of Clay, St. Johns, or Duval counties
· Completed written application
· Application must be received on time without exception
· 3.0 Minimum GPA overall
