  • Appointment Booking Form

Student Advice Centre, Newcastle University Students' Union
  • Welcome to the Student Advice Centre

Please use this form to book an appointment with an Adviser at Student Advice Centre (Students' Union), commonly called the SAC. We will begin with some initial questions to determine who you are, if you're eligible to use the service, and if you’ve previously booked with us. This helps you save time by not providing data unnecessarily.

The Student Advice Centre is currently experiencing high demand and can only offer a limited number of appointments for academic cases. We will do our best to accommodate you, but please be aware there may be a wait. If your case is urgent, please indicate this on your booking form. However, if we are unable to meet your deadline, you may need to request an extension from the relevant University department or service, explaining that you are awaiting advice.

We recommend reviewing our Academic Advice pages before booking an appointment, as they may answer your question.

  • Ok, so...

This is a student-led service and we are not insured/licensed to advise the public, so we would not be able to process an appointment for you in this instance.

  • Ok, so...

As a prospective student, we can only provide student funding advice for you.

  • Ok, so...

Rather than booking another appointment with us, you can directly contact the adviser you have been dealing with via email. You can email our Administrator at student-advice-centre@ncl.ac.uk if there is a reason you can’t contact the adviser. If you have a complaint about our service, please follow the NUSU Complaints Procedure

  • Contract Reviews

NUSU does not accept any responsibility for the choices you make with regards to housing, signing of contracts or any other legal documents.  The Student Advice Centre will review your contract as the staff are experienced in reading housing documents but they are not legally trained or qualified.  If you have concerns about your contract or do not understand any part of it, you should seek professional Legal Advice.  NUSU is not commenting on the suitability or standards of the property you choose. The Student Advice Centre Review service is not intended as a suitable substitute for you reading the contract yourself.

  • Conflict of Interest Statement

  • The Student Advice Centre (SAC), on occasion, is faced with a conflict of interest e.g. whereby the advisers know the student personally or two or more students contact us with regards to the same issue but they are in dispute. We will consider each case in its own right but our responsibility will lie with the first presenting client. We may not be able to explain to you why we cannot see you for confidentiality reasons. We accept this may be difficult to understand but we have to maintain a professional and balanced service. Otherwise, we will try to provide you with details of a referral agency that can help you.

  • Personal Contact Details

  • We want to to ensure we have up-to-date contact information for you – taking this ahead of the appointment prevents time being taken up in the appointment collecting this. If you want to know why we take certain information (data) this is covered in our Privacy Policy

  • Course Details

  • As NUSU is not a department of the University we can’t pull your data across, so we need to ask you about your academic information. We use this information to monitor which students use our services, as well as to aid us with the academic advice you may want from us.

  • You have stated that your course and degree details have not changed since your previous appointment. Please proceed if this is correct.

  • Appointment Details

  • Our advisers rotate between office and remote working. We offer face to face or online appointments via your Microsoft University student Teams account. If you wish to book a face-to-face appointment, you might have a longer waiting time due to the days the relevant adviser is in the office. Once you submit your booking form, our admin will advise you on the earliest of both types of appointment in case you wish to change to an earlier online appointment.
