 Eight (8) scholarships of $1,000 each are available.

• If submitting marks from high school before confirmation of final marks for grade 12 credits, please include a copy of the most recent report card in addition to the most recent transcript available.

4.    Two (2) supporting letters of reference, submitted by your referee. Reference letters must follow the guidelines provided (see “2023 Reference Letter Guidelines” - link at bottom of page on https://folklorama.ca/about-us/scholarships/)

• The first reference must be from an ethno-cultural community member, who has known the applicant for a minimum of two (2) years, regarding the applicant’s involvement in preserving ethno-cultural heritage.
• The second reference must be from a member of the general community (religious/cultural leader, teacher/principal, etc.) who has known the applicant for a minimum of two (2) years.
• Neither letter of reference may be from a relative of the applicant, Folklorama staff member, or member of the Folklorama Board of Directors.

**TIP - when applying for something like a job or scholarship it is a good idea to include your name in the file name**

• It is strongly encouraged that applicants submit their application prior to the deadline, should Folklorama require additional information for their submission
• The applicant is responsible to provide their most recent transcript and/or report card, both letters of reference, completed questionnaire, and any other required documents to Folklorama with their application form before the application deadline. Incomplete or late applications may not be considered.

• Please include your Full Name in the file name

1. In 400 – 500 words, describe how and to what extent you have contributed to preserving ethno-cultural heritage.  Include any relevant volunteer and/or work experiences, along with start and end dates and hours of service for each in chronological order of completion.  Please be as specific as possible on what role you held, with emphasis on your personal involvement.
2. In 400 – 500 words, describe how you see yourself contributing to bettering your ethno-cultural or general community in the future.
3. What do you plan to study at your post-secondary institution?  Where have you applied?  Where are you presently accepted?
4. In point form, list any awards and achievements you have received along with dates, in chronological order starting with your most recent awards and achievements listed first.
5. In 400 – 500 words, describe your goals and plans for the next five (5) years, including items related to preserving your ethno-cultural heritage.

Applicants: Please ensure that your references receive a copy of this criteria.

Funds will be released in September 2023 upon receipt of:

• Copy of acceptance letter from a post-secondary institution
• Proof of payment for initial fees at a post-secondary institution

NB: If the recipient does not complete a full year/semester at the post-secondary institution as per this application, the recipient must return 50% of the value of the awarded scholarship to Folklorama.
