• The Junction Dance Festival Artist Application

You are applying for the Junction Dance Festival. The Festival dates are July 14, 15 and 16. Please be aware that registration for this event will favor residents from Vermont and New Hampshire and applicants who have, or had, strong ties to the Twin States. Applicants from other states will be considered on a case by case basis.

    Application Deadline: May 5th, 2023

  • Is your piece best intended for intimate showing, outdoors and site specific, or theater stage? Please rank your preference from 1 to 3 *

  • If you are interested in performing outside or in a studio space, please indicate your preferred Saturday afternoon time slots. Choose two possibilities.

  • Please read carefully before you apply

DO NOT register if you are not certain you will be able to participate.

    Performance schedule:

    • Saturday July 15 from 12 pm to 5:45 pm, studio and outdoor performing events
    • Saturday July 15 at 7:30 pm performance at the Briggs Opera House (BOH). Call time: 6:30 pm

    Tech rehearsals

    • Wednesday July 12 from 6 pm to 8:15 pm
    • Thursday July 13 from 6 pm to 8:15 pm
    • Friday July 14 from 10 am to 4:00 pm

Dress rehearsal will be Friday evening at 8:30 pm.

TJDF will make every efforts to schedule you to the venue of your choice, but we CANNOT GUARANTEE that your piece will be shown on the stage at BOH. We encourage you to be flexible.

    The available venues are:

    • BOH https://uvjam.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/BOH-Stage-and-Seating-Floor-Plan.pdf
    • Open Door https://www.opendooruv.com/makerspace
    • White River Ballet Academy https://wrbacademy.org/why-choose-wrba/located-in-wrj/
    • Veterans Park and Lyman Point Park https://hartfordvt.myrec.com/info/facilities/details.aspx?FacilityID=14703

You will be provided with a schedule of appearance for the tech rehearsal once all registrations are in. We will make every effort to accommodate your schedule, but be prepared to free your entire Friday, especially if you are coming long distance.

If your piece is assigned to the performance at BOH, you and ALL your dancers agree to attend the tech and dress rehearsals. You will not be able to perform at the Briggs Opera House if you fail to show up for both, tech and dress rehearsals.

Please be aware that there are no tech or dress rehearsals for studio and outdoor showings, but you may take some time prior to your performance for a run-through on your own.

You must be present and be fully prepared one hour before curtain time for the dress rehearsal and all performances.

Dance pieces at BOH must be 7 minutes or less. If your piece is longer, it can be performed in one of the studios.

Tech at BOH will be minimal: lights are ramped up/down or on/off. You may request a color scheme. Music is on and off and should be engineered in advance. Your music must be recorded on one track as MP3 file or similar and emailed to info@thejunctiondancefestival.org upon request. If you have props, they must be small or easy to move quickly (there is no storage space at BOH for props).

Electrical outlets will not be available at Veterans Park. Be sure to bring your own amplifier if you are using recorded music.

You agree to submit your program information, bio, and music by the dates requested by TJDF. These dates will be sent in follow up material once your piece is accepted. Please submit the information in the format requested.

Each choreographer (or dance group) is allowed ONLY one piece to be performed at the Briggs Opera House. If you would like to present an additional piece you will have a choice to perform it in a studio or outdoors.

This is a family event. No overtly violent or mature content is allowed--no nudity, foul language, offensive lyrics or swearing in your piece.

You give consent to TJDF to take, edit and publish pictures or videos of the festival that may include your image to use for promotional and grant related material.

You agree to show respect for everyone involved in this festival (dancers, choreographers, organizers, volunteers, guests etc.).

NO TAP SHOES or other footwear that could damage the floor at the Brigg’s Opera House or in the studios.

You agree to confirm receipt of information provided to you by TJDF upon request.

NO VIDEOTAPING during the performance at the Brigg’s Opera House. The performance will be videotaped by a professional and will be made available to all dance artists. Videotaping is allowed during the dress rehearsal.

We will strive to find lodging for dance artists living more than 90 minutes away. For the others who may want to stay overnight on Friday, we recommend the Hotel Coolidge. It is right in downtown WRJ and has great deals provided you reserve in advance. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants right downtown and parking is easy.

You are participating on your own will and at your own risk.  and your participants will NOT hold TJDF, The Briggs Opera House, or any TJDF staff, liable for injury, theft or loss incurred on the premises.
