As a participant in the “Speak On It” spoken word contest presented by the Collin County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, I agree to the following:
- African American Male/Female high school student (9th -12th grade).
- Be a permanent resident of or attend school in the following areas: Allen, Anna, Fairview, Frisco, Lucas, McKinney, Melissa, Murphy, Parker, Prosper, Sachse, or Wylie
- All participants must submit a transcript of your piece as well as a performance video by April 10, 2023.
- If you are selected as a winner you will perform for the CCAC May Week Celebration, which will be held on May 7, 2023. You must be available for this time and be ready to perform for a public audience.
- Entries must be by individuals only.
- Each individual can only submit one entry.
- A completed registration form must accompany each entry.
- Registration and submission of entries will only be accepted via the registration link.
- Each entry must contain a video submission (YouTube) and script of the content:
- Your spoken word piece maximum is 3 minutes
- Original work - The piece can be your own creative writing, or a previously published poem. If you are using a published poem, you must include the MLA citation on your application.
- Make sure that you’re supporting other people through your writing rather than pulling them down. The types of content that will disqualify you from the contest include, but are not limited to:
- Anything that may be deemed hurtful, defamatory or discriminatory in nature.
- Anything deemed explicit or gratuitously violent.
- Anything referencing self-harm.
- Plagiarism
- Use of Profanity
- Entries will be judged based on:
- Poem content
- Demonstrated understanding of theme video performance
- Dramatic Appropriateness
- Physical Presence
- Voice and Articulation
- Creativity of execution
- Overall Performance
