Thank you for your interest in fostering with us! Foster homes are critical to our rescue mission and enable us to continue our lifesaving efforts. Please read below before submitting an application, thank you!

What to Expect:

Choose the pet you want to foster/criteria that works best with your schedule, background, home environment, experience, etc.
Provide a safe and loving environment that includes basic care, socialization, exercise, etc. You provide the love, we provide the supplies (if needed) and pay for all veterinarian care.
Transport to veterinarian appointments, events, meet and greets, etc. We will coordinate with you beforehand to ensure appointments fit in with your schedule.
Be involved in the adoption process and have prompt communication with us and potential adopters.
A tight knit foster family community with available support and resources!

Foster Family General Requirements:

All fosters must be 21 years of age or older.
All pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and current on routine vaccinations (including distemper combo and rabies) and monthly preventative unless otherwise stated by a veterinarian for medical reasons.
All pets, including fosters, must be housed indoors with supervision while outdoors.
Provide a safe, loving and consistent environment, be willing to work with your foster, provide adequate time for your foster to decompress, provide basic care, socialization and exercise.
Understanding that there is no set timeline on your foster finding a forever home. Patience is key!

By completing this questionnaire, I acknowledge that I have completely read and answered all questions fully and truthfully.

I agree to have SAAR complete reference call checks and contact specified landlord/hoa (if applicable) and veterinarian (if applicable) to verify information.

I agree to have SAAR conduct a home visit to approve my foster application per state guidelines. Along with potential random and scheduled home checks if SAAR deems necessary.

I agree to potential random and/or scheduled home checks by a representative from the Illinois Department of Agriculture if deemed necessary.

I agree to provide adequate social interaction, exercise, play, and basic care for my foster animal(s) while in my care. The most important thing a foster home provides a foster animal during their time in rescue is a loving home environment.

I agree to always supervise my foster animal inside and outside. I understand SAAR doesn't permit the use of dog parks with foster animals.

I acknowledge that it has been recommended to me to consult with my renters or homeowner's insurance policies to ensure I am properly covered for any injuries to people or animals in or outside of my home.

I understand that each animal may have different medical or behavioral hurdles. I agree to spend time to help my foster animal adjust to their new home environment and allow my foster animal adequate time to decompress.

I understand I must get approval from SAAR before bringing my foster animal(s) to a vet. We cannot guarantee reimbursement if you choose to seek medical attention on your own.

I understand that all foster animals will remain the property of SAAR while in foster care, until an outgoing pet adoption is completed by SAAR representatives and the adopter. While property of SAAR all animals must be returned to us upon request.

I agree that if I'm unable to foster anymore that I will notify SAAR asap and work with SAAR to find other arrangements for my foster animal(s) while still keeping my foster animal(s) safe with proper care.

I understand that applying does not ensure approval and that untruthful answers or failure to comply with the requirements of this application can result in the forfeiture of any SAAR animal fostered by me.

I understand that by submitting this application, I agree to release and covenant to hold harmless SAAR and it's members from any claims, damages, costs, or actions incurred because of the care or actions of the foster animal(s). I accept full responsibility for the foster animal(s) actions at all times, and release SAAR from any liabilities or damages that may be incurred because of fostering such animal(s).
