Health Guarantee
Ruff Country Labradors, LLC requires a veterinarian health check within 2 weeks of date of purchase by the Original Buyer for the health guarantee to remain in effect. Should the Original Buyer neglect to establish veterinary care for the puppy purchased under this contract within 2 weeks of date of purchase, this guarantee will be void.
We deworm our puppies with pyrantel pamoate on the 2/4/6/8 week standard schedule. We have also provided your puppy with a vet health clearance check and initial vaccines to ensure optimal health.
Good Health Practices
Healthy puppies and dogs require adequate nutrition and a healthy weight along with age-appropriate exercise. Puppies are growing dogs and should not be excessively exercised or allowed to play with larger dogs. They should also be supervised when around young children. Their skeletal structure will develop until they are around 24 months old. During this time, excessive exercise or rough play can negatively impact optimal development and lead to dysplasia and joint issues.
We also encourage our families to avoid over-vaccinating their dogs. Some vaccines can have negative effects, including the development of food allergies/sensitivities. Always have a discussion with your vet to ensure the vaccines given are truly needed. We recommend having titers run (a blood test that determines whether immunity to the given disease is still present from the previous vaccination) before having vaccine boosters administered to ensure the booster is truly needed.
Puppies and dogs should also have no access to dangerous chemicals, including various household chemicals and outdoor chemicals, such as those used for weed control and pest management (herbicides and pesticides). A simple rule of thumb is: if it is dangerous to humans, it is also dangerous to dogs.
12 Month Limited Health Guarantee
If the puppy is diagnosed with a life-threatening/terminal congenital condition within 12 months of age, the Original Buyer will have the option of receiving a replacement puppy from our next litter with availability.
In the event that a life-threatening/terminal congenital condition is identified, the Original Buyer is required to notify Ruff Country Labradors, LLC in writing (or email) within 1 week of the initial diagnosis to start the review process. All medical records and supporting documentation from the licensed veterinarian who made the diagnosis will be required. Ruff Country Labradors, LLC will engage our veterinarian for review of records and professional opinion. Each situation is considered individually and replacement is ultimately up to the discretion of Ruff Country Labradors, LLC.
Ruff Country Labradors, LLC will not be responsible for any expenses incurred for this process, including, but not limited to, vet expenses, boarding, shipping, etc. The Original Buyer will be responsible for any costs ensued for the acquisition of the replacement puppy, including, but not limited to, shipping or travel expenses.
No guarantee is given on disposition, ability to breed, conformation, specific OFA ratings, or size at maturity; nor does this guarantee cover congenital issues that may present after 12 months of age. This guarantee does not cover food sensitivities or allergies, coccidia (which can be caused by stress and can develop within hours in transport)/parasites (whether internal or external). This guarantee only covers life-threatening/terminal congenital conditions within 12 months of age.
As with any living being, defects can happen regardless of parental health, pedigree, history, and genetics. There is no test available prior to birth to determine if a breeding may produce a congenital defect. Most defects can be surgically corrected or managed with appropriate veterinarian care. Most congenital defects are a rare, unexplained, unpredictable occurrence. Congenital defects are a risk when buying any breed/species/animal at any age. Congenital defects can range from benign to terminal. We do not cover congenital defects not leading to loss of life. Life-threatening/terminal congenital conditions are to include defects severely affecting the quality of life for the dog as well as its ability to perform normal tasks such as eating and voiding/defecating.
At no time will Ruff Country Labradors, LLC offer a refund.
A Note on Genetics
Ruff Country Labradors, LLC (RCL) tests the dams and sires of each litter through Embark. All our breeding labs have been cleared through Embark as not affected/at risk to develop the 200+ conditions Embark tests for. Although our dogs are not at risk for developing the conditions, they may be a carrier of a specific condition. A “carrier” is not at risk to develop the condition as it means they simply carry 1 copy of the gene variant for a given condition and 2 copies are required for the condition to manifest and affect the dog. If you plan on breeding the puppy purchased under this contract, RCL encourages you to DNA test your puppy and use that information to guide the breeding decisions when finding a mate. This Health Guarantee does not cover a puppy’s potential to be a “carrier” of any genetic condition nor its ability to breed.
