In this application, you will be required to provide a download link to your formal pitch video. This section details a few aspects regarding the pitch video to help you with your submission. You will need to complete this before advancing on to the rest of the application. Applications that are not supported by a pitch video will not be considered.

    Type Of Application

Games Talent Wales are looking both for existing Teams and for individuals looking to be part of the process and join a team.

  • Section 1 - Team Leader Info & Eligibility

  • Sectoral Under-Representation

  • Do you believe that the profile of your team would been seen as unrepresentative of UK early-stage games developers in general?

Will support for your team increase the diversity of the GTW portfolio generally?

We will be exploring this issue further with applicants this apply to.

  • Application Process Accessibility

  • Section 2 - Pitch Video

  • Team Application

Use this video as the first introduction to the team. This should be professional and impressive and should deal with the following criteria:

Who is your Entrepreneurial Team Leader? What is their ambition, motivation and their experience to date?

How will they join the team together whilst balancing the role of ‘hustling’ their prototype on to great things?

Who are the Team? What are their collective ambitions? Does your team contain all the needed roles or do they still need to be recruited?

What is your Prototype Idea? What is the concept behind it and it's innovations? How will you to use this idea as a springboard to future development?

What is your Project Plan? Outline the scope of development during the Prototype Development Phase. What are you planning to ship by the end of the programme? Do you have an understanding of the team roles and contribution in line with what you are planning to develop and the budget you have?

What are your aspirations beyond Games Talent Wales? How can you take your project forward after the process? How will it support your future development, career or portfolio?

    Individual Submission

Use this video as the first introduction to you. This should be professional and impressive and should deal with the following criteria:

Who are you? What is your ambition, motivation and experience to date?

What can you offer an existing Team or project? What skills do you have and what area do you see yourself working in?

What are your aspirations beyond Games Talent Wales? How will it support your future development, career or portfolio?

The final pitch video submission should be no longer than 2 minutes.

  • Section 3 - Select Your Local Hub

  • All Games Talent Wales applicants will need to apply via a GTW Hub. You do not have to be local to this area but it is expected that you will be able to commute to this hub to attend specific events including the application pitch.

  • Team Working Style

  • Please be aware that if you are planning to work remotely your Local Hub has full authorisation to ask you and your team members to attend their hub for periodic meetups, reviews, support, etc. You and your team MUST attend these events. Please note you will be required to pay for all travel expenses to and from your Local Hub and you should include these costs in your financial planning.

  • The extent to which Local Hubs can provide hosted working space for selected teams varies. Responsibility for ensuring team working space rests with the applicants, you must agree this with your Local Hub and use the hub provision for meeting space, e.g., mentor meetings / support sessions / learning and development / other events.

  • Section 4 - Prototype Idea

  • You will have already provided visual information (e.g., screen shots / images) in your pitch video to visually explain your prototype idea. Use this section to provide some further written information on your prototype idea and fill in any details you were unable to include in your pitch video. If you are applying as an individual please only complete the relevant areas.

  • National Showcase Event

  • Each funded team will be given a set showcase space for their company and project. This years showcase space is yet to be announced but this is indicatively space for a single PC/Monitor set up with the space for one or two sat players. Due to the nature of these events it is not recommended that you rely of any wireless or network technologies.

Please think about what you envision for your showcase setup. Will players be able to sit down and experiece your game within the showcase space? Will your project be 'plug and play'?

  • Age Rating Statement

  • I am aware that project content should be compliant with PEGI 16 ratings and Games Talent Wales will not consider any gambling themed games or pornographic content. Please tick the box to indicate you are aware of this.

  • Section 5 - Project Management

  • We have found that studios who can manage scope and ship a game early-on learn more rapidly about the shifting elements that come with leading a games development project successfully. With this in mind team leaders are required to be good managers not only of their own allocated role but also have an overall understanding of the budget, the people and skills working on the project, timescales and many other roles that come with leading a games development project.

Create an outline that provides a high-level overview of your project and how you plan to pull together key resources (i.e. people / finance / time / skills). A key part of this will be how you plan to manage the scope of your project throughout the competition to ensure you ship a playable prototype at the showcase event. You may want to mention project management techniques, identify key high-level milestones and outline financial planning. We are not looking for a minute-by-minute break down of the project but a high-level overview of key stages during the competition, what we should expect to see at the end of the competition and what you will do to achieve this.

  • Section 6 - Entrepreneurial Team Leader

  • We’re looking for team leaders with an ability to ‘hustle’; that can identify sources of income, that are able to cite key target markets and that are thinking about commercial and market issues. They are solution focused, problem solvers and are wholly invested in their team and project, taking ownership and responsibility during their participation on and aspiration beyond Games Talent Wales.

As a team leader, we are looking to be blown away by your leadership capacity; your insight and knowledge of the games industry and ability to deliver outstanding results to deadline. We what to know your aspirations and how you are going to use this opportunity to start achieving your dreams. Demonstrating why you are a natural fit for this role and how you are going to take your team and idea forward to great things.

  • Section 7 - Building the Dream Team

  • Gathering together a diverse team who understand and are committed to the prototype development period is only half of what we’re looking for. Games Talent Wales teams should also be looking beyond the competition to the many possibilities afforded to them such as building sustainable video games company or going on to develop a successful career in the video games industry.

The Dream Team will have people who will support the team leader, contribute positively to the team dynamic (during the good and challenging times), take responsibility and bring skills and resource with them to deliver the prototype on time and to a high standard.

Please 'Introduce us to your team' so far. If you are yet to select your team or you have roles missing, please select your planned team number and then fill in the section labelled What's missing?

  • It is often sensible to differentiate 'core' members of the development team from 'additional' members that may resemble more of a freelance or contract based-style.

The bulk of the game project will be made by the core development team but some teams may work with 'additional' members for more more specific work like audio design or graphic design.

  • Section 8 - IP Ownership, Future Revenue Share and Vote Weighting

  • How a team manages the level of contribution by the core team members in the context of owning the IP, sharing any future revenues and voting rights, can be a conversation most teams put off for ‘another day’!

We would like you to start thinking about this from the very beginning of the process. You will have already described each team members role in your responses above, please have a conversation with your team and discuss the following questions.

We are not expecting you to have all the answers or a complete understanding. If your team is selected we will give you guidance and advice on this during the process.

  • Section 9 - Games Talent Wales Consideration

  • Section 10 - Next Steps

  • After the application has been recieved, you will receive contact from the Games Talent Wales team regarding a short, virtual eligibility meeting regarding your applicationwhich you must attend to progress your application.

If you have any further queries you can contact the team at the email: admin@gamestalent.wales.
