Saturday, March 4 and Saturday, March 25, 2023
Information about the events:
Pre-registration is preferred, but you can also register at the door for this free event. We look forward to meeting you!
Saturday, March 4, 12:00 - 4:00 pm:
We'll start at 12:00 with refreshments and a meet and greet time. At 12:30 history educator Peter Koch from the Mountain Heritage Center at WCU will give a talk about the unique qualities of local quilts and discuss the unique duality of quilts as both pieces of art and history and objects of utility. Quilt Alliance staff will give demonstrations of quilt documentation projects that anyone can use to record and preserve information about quilts and quiltmakers. Area quilt artists Jason Pierson and Kelly Sawyer will serve as interviewees for the demonstration and be available to show and share about their quilts after the presentation. We'll also have quilting and quilt labeling activity tables and we'll preview the Quilt Documentation Day on March 25.
Saturday, March 25, 12:00 - 4:00 pm:
Bring in your quilts (ones you’ve made or ones you own) to share and document. We’ll have photo and video stations set up and an interactive station for attaching labels to quilts. Local quilt artist Lisa Heller will join us to help Quilt Alliance staff demonstrate easy quilt documentation methods using simple equipment. Peter Koch will be on hand to help assess the pattern, likely origin and age of quilts brought in to share. Photos and videos will be shared with participants at no cost. Registration for specific time slots is available but not required.
