These adorable spiders have been spotted in the City of Mandurah reserve that runs from William St in Melros down to Tims Thicket Rd.
Because they live in leaf litter they can be wiped out by standard prescribed burns, which has already happened in Yallingup and Harvey, the only other two WA locations where peacock spiders have been found.
We can still have prescribed burns as long as they follow First Nations principals, that is small, patchwork, cold burns.
The CoM Environmental Department have already committed to carry out a professional survey of Peacock spiders - once we know where they are, those areas can be cordoned off and not burned.
We need your help to request City of Mandurah fire department to change to First Nation prescribed burning principals for the Tims Thicket reserves.
